Earlier today, my colleague took the liberty of crushing every Thai-crazed, vacationing Singaporean’s dream:
Though of course, she’s not proud of obliterating all your precious little dreams. Probably.
According to the article, Thailand had imposed a 14-day self-quarantine period for travellers from 11 countries, including Singapore.
However, nothing was confirmed, and a deleted post by Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul only served to add more confusion to the mix…
Well, the confusion has been cleared and if you’re still looking forward to your trip to the land of smiles…
You Can Still Travel There
Previously, The Straits Times reported that visitors and returnees arriving in Thailand from nine places hit by the coronavirus outbreak have been urged to self-quarantine for two weeks.
The list comprises China (including Hong Kong and Macau), Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Germany, France, Italy, Iran and Singapore.
That was when we all knew…our Thailand dreams got screwed up.
But.
Yes, there is a but.
Today clarified with the Royal Thai Embassy over the self-quarantine issue and got a straight answer out of them.

“Healthy People Need Not Be Quarantined”
The Royal Thai Embassy said that they “welcome people of all nationalities” in response to Today.
They clarified that people who are healthy (no respiratory problems, no stealthy coughs) do not have to be quarantined.
However, they won’t take your word for it.
There will be compulsory health screening at the checkpoints to ensure that everyone entering the country is healthy.
People With Fever May Be Isolated
So, let’s say you go to the country and you suddenly realise you are having a fever, what happens?
You will have to undergo further medical checks and possibly be isolated in a hospital room.
So make sure you have a clean bill of health before you go, okay?
Please Take Precautions When You’re There
Visitors to the country are urged to wear a mask when in crowded places. The Thai authorities also hope that visitors will take extra care to monitor their own health.
If you develop a fever, immediately seek medical help and call 1422.
Also, do remember to e-register with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) if you decided to travel overseas anyway.
After all, in order to know whether you’re in trouble, they have to know where you are in the first place, right?
Situation In Thailand
According to reports, Thailand now has 43 confirmed coronavirus cases and one death, with the deceased being a 35-year-old Thai male retail worker who was also diagnosed with dengue fever.
There’s believed to be more than 150,000 Thais operating illegally in South Korea, which possesses more than 5,300 coronavirus cases and 32 deaths.
All Thai returnees, as well as travellers from the South Korean city of Daegu and the North Gyeongsang Province, will be quarantined in government facilities.
To end off, you might want to postpone that dream vacation to Thailand for now.
Better safe than sorry, right? Anyway, if you want to go out, might as well spend money in Singapore’s economy.
It’s not me who said it, it’s PM Lee and his pretty birds.
Here’s a simplified summary of the South Korea martial law that even a 5-year-old would understand:
