WIFI – the one thing that can cause immediate panic and excitement to most of us. Did you know what does it really stand for?
Wi-Fi, a facility allowing computers, smartphones and devices to connect to the internet or communicate wirelessly within a certain zone. Wi-Fi is also known as one of the few things people cannot live without, because, WIFI. It’s free. It has successfully grown into a need than more of a want now. People are desperate for it, people hunt for it.
A lot of people, including the U.S. Military have thought Wi-Fi to be an acronym for wireless fidelity. However, WIFI actually means NOTHING. Can’t believe it? It’s true.
A member of the Wi-Fi alliance, Phil Belanger, mentioned that Wi-Fi is a nonsense word and not an acronym. It doesn’t has any meaning to it. Interbrand was hired by them to come up with a catchy name and logo that they could use for marketing efforts.
Wi-Fi also sounds similar to Hi-Fi, which is slang for High fidelity, in case you didn’t know. But when you get Wi-Fi it sure feels like you gave one hell of a satisfying Hi-Fi, ain’t it?
