Anyone who lives in Boon Lay would know of these two facts: Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak is the best-est nasi lemak in the whole of Asia, and Boon Lay MRT Station is not located next to Boon Lay.

So if you’ve just read the headline and rushed over to Boon Lay MRT Station only to find yourself in Jurong West, please read on, because for the Nth times, let me repeat this: Boon Lay isn’t next to Boon Lay MRT Station.

Instead, Boon Lay is somewhere between Boon Lay MRT Station and Lakeside MRT Station. There are two major roads that take the Boon Lay namesake as well, namely Jalan Boon Lay and Boon Lay Way.

But for simplicity’s sake, just remember this: the real Boon Lay is located near Boon Lay Shopping Centre (and no, that’s not the shopping mall next to Boon Lay MRT Station, just like how Sembawang Shopping Centre isn’t next to Sembawang MRT Station).

Here’s a map to show you where Boon Lay Shopping Centre is:

Got it now? Let’s move on to the meat of the article then: there’s a large pasar malam with Uncle Ringo in Boon Lay (the real Boon Lay).

Boon Lay Trade Fair

If you’re a Boon Lay Kia, you’d know about Boon Lay Shopping Centre and the crowded walkway in front of it.

Here, have a look:

This road is commonly known to Boon Lay Kias as the “real Boon Lay”, and only two buses ply there: Bus 99 (which you can take from Clementi MRT Station) and bus 240.

And this road is going to get more crowded because a pasar malam has just landed there.

Yes, I’ve got to admit that it’s yet another pasar malam, but let’s face it: with it being a rather endangered trade, any pasar malam is newsworthy.

Especially when you can expect things like salted egg fish skin…

…and Uncle Ringo rides (though I think-ed there isn’t any Pirate Ship lah):

Oh, wait. There is a Pirate Ship but you might be overage for it:

So, if you stay in the west, what are you waiting for?

To get there, simply take 240 from Lakeside MRT Station or Boon Lay MRT Station. You can alight when you see the pasar malam as the bus would pass by it.

If you’re driving, you can park next to Boon Lay Shopping Centre; there are usually ample lots even during peak hours.

Lest you’re not aware, the popular Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak is just next to the pasar malam. If nothing catches your eye in the pasar malam, you can at least understand why people in the west swear by Boon Lay Nasi Lemak.
