The cafe and restaurant scene in Bangkok is thriving splendidly, thanks in part to its booming tourism and the supportive locals. One of these notable restaurants is the aptly named The Rome Restaurant.
Since being opened for business from December 2015, you can spot this seriously Instagram-worthy restaurant appearing on many Facebook and Instagram feeds.
The Rome Restaurant
Located on Petchkasem Road, it is a little out of the way from the ever popular Pratunam area but this doesn’t stop many people from checking out this beautiful restaurant.
If you must dine in temperature controlled conditions they have an intricately decorated indoor seating area but if not, we recommend that you sit in the al-fresco area, as it has a massive outdoor dining area that is even more lavish and makes for that perfect photo op.
The Rome “Feel”
Like its namesake, you won’t be surprised to find that the whole restaurant is styled with a Roman theme.
And by a Roman theme we mean that they have a mini replica of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, grand Roman statues dotted everywhere, a Romanesque water fountain and little fancy details everywhere.
The unique tables in the restaurant are the tables in the middle of the pool, but it is best to make a reservation for these tables to avoid disappointment as they are often fully booked.
It is very easy to make a booking, just search for their Facebook page and drop them a message with the necessary details. You will find the restaurant to be calming and relaxing, a little change of scenery from the bustling Pratunam.
They serve a mixture of traditional Thai and Western dishes, at a reasonable price so you don’t have to worry about burning a hole in your pocket.
For snap-happy patrons, they will find this restaurant a delight as there are numerous photo opportunities everywhere from the toilets to the surroundings. Look no further than the Rome’s toilets for that perfect bathroom selfie.
If you like Terminal 21 toilets, you will love the Rome Restaurant’s bathrooms, so remember to check it out. The ideal time to visit the restaurant would be in the early evening, as the sun is setting so that you can admire the lighted up pool area in all its glory.
How to get there
The journey to this place takes about an hour from the city centre, it is advisable to take the BTS to Bang Wa station and alight there to hail a cab to take you to the restaurant. Dining in this restaurant makes one almost feel like you are in Rome, without the burden of an expensive air ticket to get there.
So, get dolled up, grab your cameras and take a visit to this fabulous place.
