This Japanese Hotel Only Charges S$1.60 A Night, But You’ll Have To Livestream Your Every Move

We’ve all heard of crazy things people have done to cut on expenses while travelling overseas but how far are you willing to go to save money? Would you let strangers watch you sleep? 

There’s a hotel in Japan, Fukuoka City called Ryokan Asahi that charges just $1.60 a night for a room but at a price – You will have to let thousands of people watch your every move throughout your stay. 

But how? $1.60 is barely enough to buy a cup of Kopi Bing in Singapore, how in the world is this hotel earning money?

Well, the hotel is currently running a YouTube channel called One Dollar Hotel, where they broadcast footage of the customers living there. 

This means that in-exchange of being able to stay at a low price of $1.60, the guest’s room video footage will be aired live for any and everyone to watch.

A reported from SoraNews24 actually tried it out and showed the interior of the hotel room, which looks extremely cosy and comfortable to rest in. (You know, if you can ignore the fact that people are watching you 24/7)

The reporter stated that the owners will give you a heads up where the camera is and at least gives you a little warning not to just lounge around naked in your room. 

The owner also stated that only video footage will be recorded so you can rest assured that your burps and farts won’t be broadcasted to the entire world.

The toilets of the hotel are also communal, so you don’t need to worry because you will be filmed only in the comforts of your room.

I mean look at this guy, he certainly looks like he’s enjoying the experience.

As for the reason why the hotel owner did this, it was because he was experiencing bad business at his hotel in one particular room, room 8. 

For some reason, no one ever wanted to book that room so he wanted to spice things up by coming up with this new challenge. 

Although he is only charging $1.60, the owner felt that earning $1.60 a night is better than having an empty room and earning nothing anyway. 

Also, he hopes this special challenge will help get his Ryokan more attention and set it apart from other places in Japan.
