While the Covid-19 pandemic is bad on all fronts, at least you can’t say that it’s not fair.
Regardless of race, language or religion, everyone’s equally impacted by it, unless you’re Sheng Siong’s or Haidilao’s founder, that is.
And celebrities not spared.
Wang Lei switched and made a killing (or at least a career) off selling fishes online.
A young actress decided to sell home-made collagen-rich broth
And now, another actor has joined the scene.
Actor Thomas Ong
This is Thomas Ong
He is retiring from showbiz this year and his last show with Mediacorp is SuperDad.
Originally, he had planned to go travel around the world but had to put his plan on hold since, well, Covid-19 happened.
After staying at home for a few months, he decided to get productive again.
Selling Durians & Healthy Food
Ong said he recently met with a durian seller, and now, both of them are in a joint venture.
They are planning to sell durian-flavoured mooncakes for the Mid-Autumn Festival, which falls on 1 Oct 2020 this year.
The pair is also developing durian products that will be sold in Singapore, with Ong taking charge of tasting, marketing the product as an ambassador and deliver from time to time.
If that’s not enough, he’s also going into the healthy food business with a chef.
Both are hard at work developing a menu that is “delicious, convenient and healthy”.
Ong hopes that he can start taking online orders in Sep 2020.
Not Doing It For The Money
When asked about the income, Ong insists that he’s not doing it for the money.
Instead, he’s doing it because he’s bored.
Nonetheless, he does hope that both ventures take off although he still has his mind on travelling around the world, which will hopefully be possible by January 2021.
Meanwhile, fellow actor Chen Hanwei is very sure that Ong will be back on the entertainment scene.
As for whether Ong will get to fulfil his jet setting dreams by January 2021? Probably not, given how experts are talking about the Covid-19 pandemic.
But hey, I do know I’m going to order a lot of durian from now on; after all, a chance to see Thomas Ong in real life together with my favourite fruit?
