By now you have probably heard of the crazy fitness and beauty trends sweeping through the social networks, especially in China. Attracting much attention within China and in the international circuit, we still remember some of the previous so-called unrealistic “beauty trends” the Chinese netizens thought up and which has spread through the internet space like wildfire.
There were the coins in the collarbones challenge where you can see whether your collarbones could contain a row of coins, reaching out to touching your belly button from behind your waist challenge, hiding your waist behind an A4 paper challenge and now we have the latest trend which is the iPhone 6 legs.

All these bizarre trends are used by women to determine their level of skinniness, as this aspect is much prized by Chinese women.
The iPhone 6 legs challenge measures how skinny you are by placing your knees as close together as possible then putting an iPhone 6 on top of the knees. Then take a photo of the results, if your knees can be covered by the phone, then congratulations, you have “iPhone 6 legs”.
This trend first emerged on China’s Sina Weibo, where there already have been more than 67 million views, over 50,000 comments and counting on the photos.
Masses of China’s female netizens took to the Internet and shared photos of the results of the challenge. If this sounds ridiculous and absurd to you, try telling that to the participants of the challenge.
This challenge was immediately slammed by netizens around the world, causing much outrage on this harmful and unhealthy trend. The iPhone 6 is not a very big object, measuring only 15.8cm long and 7.78cm across.
In order to “win” this challenge, susceptible youths might undertake upon themselves to lose weight unhealthily, which can be damaging to their bodies.
These highly unrealistic standards of beauty can cause many health problems for women who try to achieve this. While some women are born with naturally thin frames, some of them will go to extreme measures to accomplish this. These challenges are body shaming and need to be stopped now.
Women should be taught that all and any size body is perfect, they do not need to conform to any ridiculous standards of beauty as long as they are in good health conditions. The iPhone challenge seems to be the most laughable challenge, yet, one wonders what the next misguided “beauty trend” will be.
