Bedok South, Xilin and Sungei Bedok MRT stations will open on Saturday, 26 December 2026. The biggest time saving in the Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) examples is for commuters travelling from Havelock to Changi Business Park, who could shave 25 minutes off their journey.
Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow announced the opening date at Singapore Urban Mobility Week on 4 November. Bedok South will serve the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL), Xilin will serve the Downtown Line (DTL), and Sungei Bedok will be the eastern endpoint of both lines. It will also be the second station where commuters can switch between them, after Stevens.
Which Trips Will Get Shorter?
LTA gave three examples of how journey times could change once the stations open.
| Journey | Before Opening | After Opening | Time Saved |
|---|---|---|---|
| Havelock to Changi Business Park | 70 minutes | 45 minutes | 25 minutes |
| Marine Terrace to Expo | 40 minutes | 25 minutes | 15 minutes |
| Marine Parade to Tampines | 45 minutes | 35 minutes | 10 minutes |
For the Changi Business Park trip, commuters can take the TEL from Havelock to Sungei Bedok, then switch to the DTL for Xilin. That route takes out the bus transfer in the current 70-minute journey.
Commuters starting at Marine Terrace or Marine Parade can make the same change at Sungei Bedok and stay on the DTL to Expo or Tampines.
Where the New Stations Are
Bedok South (TE30) is on Upper East Coast Road, near the Bedok South residential area. The station gives nearby residents and schools, including those in the Bayshore precinct, another way onto the rail network.
Xilin (DT36) sits below the junction of Xilin Avenue and Changi South Avenue 3, serving the Changi South industrial estate as well as Changi Business Park. Sungei Bedok (TE31/DT37) is near Upper East Coast Road and Bedok Road and will have underground bicycle parking.
The extensions add 4.3km of track altogether. The TEL will extend beyond Bayshore and have 29 stations in service, completing its planned five-stage opening. The DTL will extend beyond Expo and have 37 stations in service.
