For some, the upcoming Mother’s Day is something that they have been planning ahead for weeks or months.

For others, it’ll take them more than 10 days or so before they realized they completely forgot about it and scramble to find something to send.

For the mothers themselves, Mother’s Day often means a day of glorious sales and discounts that caters especially for them, and that it’s time to spend, spend and spend some more!

So, if you’re selling something or if you’re looking to be the next viral star on TikTok, you’ll want to take note!

“Hip” TikTok mums that businesses will want to appeal to

If you thought TikTok is only used by teens and tweens, you’re most definitely wrong!

According to TikTok itself, it revealed that about 27% – that’s approximately one out of four – of their users are actually mums of varying ages.

Most of these mums (around 48%) are working mums and hence, they often turn to online shopping on their mobile phones since that’s the easiest way to buy anything they’ll need during the few idle moments they have in between work and family commitments.

Mums, who wield a pretty large portion of the purchasing power of any family, on TikTok are also turning to TikTok influencers (a.k.a. momfluencers or dadfluencers) to find recommended products to buy.

And for the millennial mums, they are apparently brand evangelists so if you managed to get them loving your products, they will stick with you for life.

What mums want, according to TikTok

Considering how dreadful the pandemic has been for most of us, mums all around the world probably had it worse.

All around the globe, news outlets are reporting that working women with children have been dropping out of the workforce en masse, sacrificing their jobs, and careers to take care of the family, as schools, nurseries and kindergartens are shut down.

They are also expected to take on more roles than before, including replacing teachers as full-time educators especially if their kids are very young; if they lack the necessary tools to allow their kids to access online learning resources; if the online classes aren’t adequate; or if their child has special needs.

Due to all of this, it is no wonder that TikTok reported that what mums really, really want is a well-deserved vacation – a break from all the hustle and bustle of life that were thrusted upon them as the pandemic descends on the world.

Unfortunately, a vacation isn’t exactly a possible option for many right now, especially considering that many countries are getting caught by surprise by another, seemingly deadlier wave of COVID-19 infection and that the global vaccination efforts seem sluggish at best.

However, in Singapore at least, getting your mum a special relaxing outing might still be possible… just don’t bring her to Bukit Timah Rail Corridor. It’s a bit packed there!

Still worried about the coronavirus? Well, the next best thing according to the National Retail Federation is a girl’s, and also a mum’s, best friend… jewellery!

When to start posting Mother’s Day content?

According to TikTok, they noticed there’s a massive spike in the volume of content posted on the day of Mother’s Day rather than the day before.

The same goes for views and engagement on said content.

If you want your post to be noticed, try posting your content on mother’s day and maybe just maybe you’re able to be the next Naomi Neo.

A quick tip as well – based on TikTok’s own reports, their users tend to spend most of their time scrolling through their “For You” feeds since the content displayed there are all personalized to their interests.

So, if you are able to come up with genuine and interesting video content, you might be able to attract more attention to your page, and potentially converting those views into purchases… cha ching cha ching!

But of course, if you’re targeting mums in particular, know that they are often a thrifty lot.

A little extra discount cashback, voucher, coupon, and of course, an Asian favourite, free gift either through a BOGO (buy one free one) or a gift for purchases over a certain amount spent will go a long way to encourage them to make a purchase.
