Folks, I’m sure you know of, if not been to try, Tim Ho Wan.
They’re the one-star Michelin restaurant which drove Singaporeans into a frenzy when it first arrived on our shores.
Today, it was reported that Tim Ho Wan outlets in KL suddenly closed down. For good.
Here’s what you need to know.
Tim Ho Wan Closes All Stores in KL Due To Losses
Malaysian media reported on 4 July 2017 that Tim Ho Wan will be closing its two restaurants in the country—one at 1Utama Shopping Mall and the other at Mid Valley Megamall.
The company which holds 51% in the operator of the restaurants, Dim Sum Delight Sdn Bhd stated the restaurants have made a loss of RM895,642 in the financial year of 2016.
They have assessed the market and deemed the current retail scene too “soft and competitive”. They decide that it would be hard for the restaurants to turn the loss around and start making money.
What does it mean for Tim Ho Wan in S’pore?
If you’re a fan of Tim Ho Wan, don’t worry. The stores in Singapore will not be affected, according to the spokesman for the group here in Singapore.
Tim Ho Wan currently have eight outlets in Singapore, with one being 24-hour.
And for those who are frustrated because you love eating Tim Ho Wan in Malaysia (3:1 rate, remember?), don’t worry.
You’ll be happy to know that while there are no more Tim Ho Wan stores in KL, Tim Ho Wan Malacca will be business as usual. 😉
