I Used to Panic About Hair on My Pillow—Until This Scalp Treatment Stopped It for Good

Do you wake up to find your pillow filled with hair?

Now, don’t panic yet; I know how you feel, because I used to panic, too, wondering if one day, I’d wake up with a bald patch.

After going for my very first scalp treatment a few months ago, this problem is history: you’d not only few fewer hair on your pillow (yes, counting hair strands on a pillow is a thing), you’d feel more confident, knowing that you’re likely not going to to go bald soon.

Yes, I’m talking about TK TrichoKare’s Scalp Purifying Therapy.

If that is new to you, read on, because it’s going to lit.

What can you expected?

The TK Trichokare in Orchard Road

For this latest session, I decided to head down to the the TK TrichoKare outlet located on level five of Ngee Ann City.

When I arrived, I was greeted by several friendly staff members at the counter. One of the staff members, Lynn, guided me to a room where I filled in a questionnaire about my health and diet, hair and scalp condition, as well as my hair care routine.

Don’t worry, the questions contained in the questionnaire are rather straightforward—you won’t have to lose more hair while stressing about how to answer the questions (ha!).

Pre-Treatment Scalp and Hair Analysis

Once I had completed the questionnaire, Lynn returned and combed through my responses in the questionnaire (pun not intended) to get a better understanding of my scalp and hair condition.

Moments later, with the help of technology, I get to know more about my scalp and hair condition.

The said “technology” is a Tricho-Scan tool — an unsuspecting tool which had been sitting in front of me the whole time. The tool is used to examine your scalp condition using a digital microscope camera with up to 200 times magnification.

Lynn then proceeded to show me the wonders of the Tricho-Scan tool. She picked it up and moved the scanning tool along my scalp, talking me through the issues with my hair that she spotted using the tool.

Earlier, I told Lynn that I suspected that I had dandruff. Yet, the Tricho-Scan tool proved me wrong — what showed up on the scanning tool wasn’t dandruff, but dry pieces of my scalp.

Lynn explained to me the difference between dandruff and a dry scalp, and enlightened me on how my dry scalp caused my hair loss. She also added that my scalp condition could potentially be caused by the shampoo I was using.

Ah… I knew I couldn’t trust those TikTok recommendations. Better to leave such things for the professionals.

Customised European Herbal Scalp Masque

After Lynn diagnosed my scalp and hair conditions, it was time to get to work saving it.

Lynn guided me over to the treatment area and sat me down. She handed me over to her colleague, hair specialist Yvonne, who would be taking care of my scalp and hair treatment.

After I sat down at the treatment area, I knew it was over—the seat was so comfortable, I could foresee myself unintentionally dozing off during the treatment (again). So when Yvonne asked me if I’d like some tea or water, I obviously chose the caffeinated option.

As I sipped on my hot cup of tea, Yvonne got down to work and prepared a Premium European Herbal Scalp Masque. The masque was customised to target my main hair issues which Lynn had identified earlier—hair loss and a dry scalp.

Yes, you read that right. This hair masque will be customised just for you, the same way it was customised for me. Even if you have other types of scalp and hair issues such as dandruff or an itchy, sensitive or oily scalp, TK Trichokare has a fix for you.

Yvonne then used a thick brush to apply the cooling masque onto every inch of my scalp.

And to make sure I could really reap all the benefits of the hair masque, she then gently massaged the hair masque into my scalp. The massage was meant to fully enhance the absorption of the masque to my scalp.

The cooling sensation of the masque on my head was incredibly shiok, and fortunately, I could enjoy it for a little while longer. The hair masque was left to sit in my scalp for approximately 15 minutes, so that it could work its magic.

Revitalising Hair Bath

While I was lost in thought about the age-old chicken-or-egg dilemma, Yvonne returned to let me know it was time to rinse off the hair masque. She guided me to the hair wash station and sat me down.

My journey at the hair wash station started with a thorough rinse of my scalp and hair using water. I was then surprised with a cooling sensation on my scalp once again—as it turns out, Yvonne had applied a Nourishing Hair Bath shampoo on my scalp, which also had a cooling effect.

The shampoo contains ingredients like almond oil and wasabia japonica root ferment extract, which strengthens your hair and shields your scalp from environmental stressors.

The shampoo also smelled amazing. If you got a whiff of it, you would wish it was made into a reed diffuser of some sort so that you could fill your home with the same scent.

But since such a reed diffuser doesn’t exist, this shampoo does the job lah.

Yvonne then massaged the shampoo into my scalp. It was so relaxing that you could probably doze off to it, but I had to fight to stay awake so that I wouldn’t drop my phone on my face.

Next, it was time to apply some conditioner. Yvonne applied the CompleteKare Mask conditioner on the ends of my hair, which would help to moisturise and repair my dry and damaged hair.

It was a great addition to the hair treatment process, given that I haven’t been very diligent with using my hair conditioners at home…

She then rinsed the conditioner off, wrapped my head in a towel, and brought me back to my seat at the treatment area.

Treatment Essence Applied With NanoMist Spray

After I sat back down at the treatment area, Yvonne placed a green heating pad on my shoulders and gave me a brief shoulder massage.

That’s how pampered you will be at TK TrichoKare—not only do they take care of your scalp and hair issues, they also make sure you’re as comfortable as you can be.

Later, Yvonne blow-dried my hair and suddenly rolled out a strange-looking machine. I mean, it was strange-looking to me, but of course not for Yvonne or the other staff members at the clinic.

Image: Chew Ming Hui

As it turns out, the machine was connected to a NanoMist Spray—a spray that would be used to apply a treatment essence onto my scalp.

The treatment essence that was used contained ingredients such as saw palmetto and burdock, which helps to strengthen hair growth. In other words, there are all sorts of amazing natural ingredients in the treatment essence which help to make sure you’ll still have a full head of hair even when you’re 50.

Yvonne then patiently made her way through my scalp using the NanoMist Spray, spraying the treatment essence and massaging it into my scalp along the way.

Image: Chew Ming Hui

I was told that the NanoMist spray helps in delivering the treatment essence through my hair follicles, maximising the effect of the treatment essence that was applied.

If I do the NanoMist spray portion of the hair treatment sufficient times, who knows? I just might become Rapunzel.

And as if the NanoMist spray wasn’t already good enough, Yvonne then gave me another scalp massage to help my hair follicles absorb all that treatment essence.

At this juncture, if you’re thinking: “Alright, that’s a lot of things for your scalp, but what about the ends of your hair?”

Of course TK Trichokare didn’t forget about that. Yvonne also proceeded to apply a hydrating serum on the ends of my hair, so that my hair wouldn’t look like a broom whenever i put it up in a claw clip.

Afterwards, she blow-dried my hair once more.

And next, we’re onto the final stages of the hair treatment.

PhotoDynamic Therapy

As if the Tricho-Scan tool and the NanoMist spray machine weren’t already enough gadgets, TK Trichokare still had one more space-looking gadget left which would help save my scalp and hair.

Here’s what it looks like:

Crazy, right? It looks as if you were in a sci-fi movie.

This final gadget was none other than the photodynamic therapy machine. It uses infra-red light technology to maintain your scalp’s pH balance, detoxify your scalp, and promote overall hair and scalp health.

Image: Chew Ming Hui

The machine sits just above your head, kind of like you’re wearing a giant floating hat (except it emits infra-red light). I sat under the photodynamic therapy machine for approximately ten minutes, before Yvonne returned to turn the machine off and roll it away.

Goodbye, cool machine.

Post-Treatment Scalp Scan Analysis

As I said goodbye to the photodynamic therapy machine, I also said goodbye to Yvonne, as I was guided back into the scalp analysis room to meet my hair consultant, Lynn.

Lynn picked up the Tricho-Scan tool and scanned my scalp again. Honestly, I was surprised at how different my scalp looked — all those nasty little pieces of dry scalp were no longer visible.

I had the hair masque and and hair wash to thank for that.

As I ran my fingers through my hair, I also realised that the ends of my hair felt significantly smoother. No more of that dry, hay-like texture which made it impossible to detangle my hair in the mornings.
