Much like crying at least once a week during the pandemic, arguments with your significant other are inevitable. There’s simply no avoiding it.
What we can control, is how we react to these arguments.
Young, inexperienced lovers may try passive-aggressive tactics like ignoring calls and texts, and giving their partners the silent treatment.
But fortunately for the woman in our story, her then-husband reacted in a much more mature manner; he sat on her cab so she couldn’t leave.
Man Sat on Top of Taxi to Prevent it From Moving Outside Paya Lebar Square Mall
On 10 Nov last year, Muhammad Shafiee Abdul Hakim and his wife had a quarrel near Paya Lebar Square mall.
It has not been revealed what the argument was about, but it was infuriating enough that Shafiee’s wife wanted to leave.
Shafiee wouldn’t let her go, however, so the woman ran into the mall, hoping to escape.
Shafiee followed her into the mall and tried to restrain her, but she managed to get away and ran to the taxi stand where she planned to leave in a cab.
At this point, Shafiee had two options:
- Let his wife leave in peace
- Let his wife leave in peace
Unfortunately, he ended up going with secret option number 3: sit atop the taxi so his wife couldn’t leave.
Shafiee had prevented her from boarding the taxi at first, and when the woman started screaming for help, some onlookers separated the two, or tried to.
His wife managed to get into the cab but just as it was about to move away, Shafiee broke free from those restraining him and jumped on top of the cab, forcing the driver to apply his emergence brakes.
He even tried to open the taxi’s doors while atop the cab. Fearing an attack, the cabbie locked his doors.
Police officers eventually arrived, and it didn’t end well for the 34-year-old.
Jailed for 5 Days
Yesterday (30 Nov), Shafiee was sentenced to five days’ jail after pleading guilty to a single charge of causing mischief.
Another charge of harassing his ex-wife was taken into consideration for sentencing.
In climbing onto the taxi’s roof, Shafiee caused a dent in the vehicle’s roof and damaged its fin, amounting to $321 worth of damage.
The judge called Shafiee’s actions “wholly disproportionate, unreasonable and immature…”, as well as dangerous.
Shafiee said he was remorseful for his actions and the judge noted that he had voluntarily made full restitution for the damage caused to the taxi.
The 34-year-old is no longer with his wife.
