If you’re a frequent-taker of the MRT, you’ve likely heard about how you should deal with suspicious packages that were left unattended:
“Report them to the relevant authorities and stay away from them.”
So when a security guard at Temasek Polytechnic (TP) chanced upon a mysterious package, that was exactly what he did.
Mysterious Package in Temasek Poly Led to SPF & SCDF Search
On 1 Dec 2021, a security guard chanced upon a strange package left unattended in one of the auditoriums at around 8:55pm.
To make the matter worse, the mysterious package has entangled wires, leading the guard to believe that it could be a bomb.
Alarmed, he called the police and soon after, Singapore Civil Defence Force and police vehicles were spotted outside the school.
It was a tense situation and police officers could be seen clearing the area while investigating.
Thankfully, though, it turned out to be a false alarm.

It Was A Prop That Was Left Behind
After conducting various tests, the SPF and SCDF concluded that there weren’t any harmful substances within the box.
It was later found out that the school had held a security and safety course in the auditorium prior to the incident.
A few props were reportedly used as demonstrations during the course and were left behind by the staff.
They had forgotten to pack it up and left them in bags along the walls of the auditorium instead.
A spokesperson for the school also confirmed that the incident was a false alarm.
The police also confirmed that they’ve found no illegal activities.
A Good Job Altogether
While it was a false alarm, it’s definitely reassuring to see that our police and civil defence forces are always on the ball, ready to go at a moment’s notice.
And while the guard might be embarrassed at causing a scene out of nothing, he should be commended for doing his job right.

After all, it’s better to be safe than sorry, right?
So the lesson of the day is this: Leave strange packages alone and call the authorities.
That or always pack up after yourself meticulously or you might be the cause of another incident like this.
