It appears that TraceTogether is set to become the new EZ-Link…

Though rather than public transportation, it’s set to become the new face of public venues instead.

We Might Be Able to Use TraceTogether Like an EZ-Link Card for Entry to Public Places Soon

According to CNAa system called the SafeEntry Gateway may just become the new meta for public venues, if it’s given the green light.

Created by the Smart Nation and Digital Government Group (SNDGG), the device intends to offer a “more seamless and convenient check-in experience” for TraceTogether users”.

Should it be successful, long queues to process QR codes or scan identity cards will become a thing of the past.

According to the report, the SafeEntry Gateway works like an EZ-Link processor of sorts.

It’ll be able to identify active TraceTogether app and token users, and take down visitors’ check-ins through Bluetooth signals.

To scan in, token users simply have to bring their tokens within a 5 to 15cm vicinity of the device.

On the other hand, those using the phone app will need to switch on their Bluetooth, start the app and keep their mobile close to the Gateway.

The process is said to only take a few seconds.

The device is currently on trial at three entrances at Downtown East.

Each prototype is reported to cost less than S$100, excluding operational costs, but the finalised price will depend on the end design.

Pretty sure that’ll be cheaper than engaging a person to scan ICs at entrances.

Trials are expected to last until the end of the year, and may be expanded to other locations.
