You must be familiar with the TraceTogether app.

Just like “30 Day Fitness Challenge”, it’s an app you have on your phone but have never used.

However, if the country wants to move to Phase 3, TraceTogether must have a participation rate of about 70%, so whether it’s the app or token, you should probably get one soon.

And since we’re progressively reopening our borders, the app will be vital for tourists too.

TraceTogether Going to Have an Upgrade Next Month That Allows Tourists to Check In Easily

As you know, downloading and using the TraceTogether app is mandatory for visitors here, as it aids with contact tracing efforts.

Soon, the app will be upgraded so tourists can check in via SafeEntry at shopping malls and dining venues, according to The Straits Times.

A new feature will be installed on the app, allowing tourists to record and validate their passport numbers during app registration.

The validation will be instant, after it’s checked against the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority’s database.

This new feature will likely be ready by December.

TraceTogether-only SafeEntry for Tourists

Until now, tourists have been able to check in at public venues by showing their passports and the TraceTogether app on their phones.

Venue operators would then have to manually enter their passport details in a computer or a phone running the SafeEntry (Business) application to record the visit.

As you can imagine, it was not as smooth a process.

Tourists have also been able to scan the SafeEntry QR code with their phones so they can fill up an online form.

But not anymore.

As the country shifts to TraceTogether-only SafeEntry, tourists, just like residents, will need TraceTogether in order to enter public venues.

The switch is expected to begin at the end of the year, so Singapore can host more visitors.

Minister: S’pore Willing to Reopen Borders Further

A few days ago, Education Minister Lawrence Wong said Singapore is prepared to reopen its borders further, as long as the necessary safeguards are in place.

He added that Singapore is keen on discussing air travel bubbles with more countries that are either safe or low-risk.

This not only means that we might be able to travel to other countries for leisure, we will likely also have more tourists coming to Singapore.

And just as it’s important that residents aid in contact tracing efforts, tourists have to do their part too.
