I am a self-professed foodie but I can’t cook for nuts.
The only thing I am good at doing is wicked avocado toast.
So I am always on the hunt for instant eats. I want minimum effort but maximum pleasure.
One of my favourite things to do in life is to visit supermarkets; the sheer pleasure of walking through food aisles is indescribable.
And finding lip-smacking fare that doesn’t require me to cook is like winning the lottery for me.
So you can only imagine my excitement when I came across this:
At first I thought it was a curry paste of sorts since Prima Taste is known for their luscious sauces. But nope, it is part of their ready-to-eat products.
My first thought—combat ration.
I can’t believe that they managed to seal the chicken and rice in one packet. Not to mention it is not refrigerated! This means you won’t need a fridge to store it, and the expiry date is one year later!
I had to get it!
How to cook
If I can “cook” this, anyone can.
Like how Chef Martin Yan always says, “ If Yan can cook, so can you.”
First, you have to give the packet a good massage so that the curry sauce is evenly distributed.
It helps that it is very therapeutic.
Then you tear the top of the packet (just a bit) and place it inside the microwave for 90 seconds.
In that 90 seconds, you can do pushups or burpees or jumping jacks but I used that time to reply my WhatsApp messages that I have been conveniently ignoring.
Jeez, I think I would have been better off doing jumping jacks.
Tadah, the food is ready!
Let it cool for a minute or two.
You could either eat it straight from the packet but I am going to place it on a plate so you can see how it looks like.
I know it doesn’t look instagrammable but hey, that’s when you know the food is going to be lit af.
It also contains a reasonable amount of chicken.
Verdict
It was quite tasty albeit dry for a curry dish. The chicken was not too bad either.
My expectations weren’t high since it came out from a packet; maybe that is why I am impressed.
It isn’t spicy for me as well.
If you feel lazy to cook or head out for dinner, this is a decent option.
It is also very convenient as it is very compact and it doesn’t need to be refrigerated. You can simply put in your bag and bring it to work.
For those who are health-conscious, you can indulge in this too as it has the healthy pyramid symbol.
Rating: 3/5
Recommendation
For those who are here for a good time, you should try their claypot chicken rice.
It manages to replicate the same flavours you would get in a typical claypot dish.
It really hits the spot, especially when you’re inebriated!
