Trump Plays Golf in His Club For the First Time Since 8 March as The US Slowly Opens Up

Saying Donald Trump has failed miserably in his coronavirus response would be like saying some Singaporeans are sad about the closure of bubble tea stores: it’s a massive understatement.

The US president has been criticised for dismissing the advice of medical experts, denying past statements, leaving all responsibility to the states, and refusing to accept blame for his failures.

More than anything, Trump wants the world to believe that the US government has “prevailed” against the coronavirus, even though the numbers say otherwise.

Why is he so desperate to make it seem like the government has defeated the virus?

Well, maybe because he wants the country to do well, but it’s probably because he wants to play the one sport where you don’t actually have to exercise.

Trump Plays Golf in His Club For the First Time Since 8 March

While leaders all over the world are working overtime to combat the coronavirus outbreak, Trump played golf for the first time since the US declared a national emergency in March.

Trump actually has his own golf club called the Trump National Golf Club. Sporting a white polo shirt and white baseball cap, the president knocked some tiny white balls for the first time since 8 March, when he visited his club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The US president was seen playing a round with three other people, and drove a golf cart alone around the course.

According to NBC News, Trump patted another golfer on the shoulder at one point, even though none of the players was seen wearing a mask.

It’s no secret that the US president has been dying to get back on his favourite golf course.

In addition to telling reporters that he’d like to play but was “too busy” during the Covid-19 pandemic, he also called into an NBC PGA special to say he missed the game.

“I do miss it. I haven’t played, really, since this problem that we have started. I haven’t been able to play golf for a while. I’ve been very busy, and I think that it’s just one of those things, but we’re getting back to normal,” Trump said.

Amusingly, Trump once slammed Obama for playing golf during the Ebola outbreak.

I didn’t know Obama plays golf too. That guy seemed to be working 21 hours a day.

Pushing To Reopen

Trump has been pushing to reopen the country even though Covid-19 infections are still rising.

Just yesterday, the president called upon governors to open places of worship across the country.

According to The Washington Post, all 50 states in America have begun lifting Covid-19 restrictions, even though public health experts have warned about the risks of reopening too soon.

Just this weekend, crowds flocked to reopened beaches to celebrate Memorial Day, many of whom went without masks.

Why are people like this?

At the time of writing, the US has 1,666,828 Covid-19 infections and 98,683 deaths, the highest numbers in the world.

If Trump and the states continue ignoring the advice of scientists and health experts, the US could end up in a very bad spot indeed.

Or maybe it’ll work. Who knows.
