Laid Off By Mistake?
Following Elon Musk’s US$44 billion (S$62 billion) acquisition of the social media giant, roughly half of its staff were laid off.
No one was spared – employees on the communications, content curation, human rights and the product and engineering teams were all affected.

Even the trust and safety team was affected by the lay-offs.

However, the company is now reaching out to dozens of laid-off employees and asking them to return to the company.
The reason given?
Some were apparently laid off by mistake.

Others were apparently let go before management realised that their experience was essential to crafting the new features envisioned by the Tesla CEO.

One of these new features was the revision of the blue check verification marks – otherwise known as the new Twitter Blue subscription plan.
Yes, you can now get the verification check mark as well, if you’re willing to fork out US$8 a month.
But the verification check is not all that not all Musk needs these employees back for.

Amongst other new features, the company also plans to reduce ads on the platform and to launch a feature allowing users to post longer videos as well.
Close to 3,700 Jobs Eliminated
Twitter eliminated close to 3,700 jobs via email.
Most employees learnt that their employment with the social media giant had been terminated after their access to company systems, such as Slack and e-mail, were abruptly severed.
On Saturday (5 Nov) evening, the business mogul tweeted that: “unfortunately, there is no choice when the company is losing over $4M/day”.
He also added that all staff who were laid off were offered 3 months of severance pay, which is 50% more than legally required.

For now, about 3,700 staff are left. In the future however, the numbers may start to go up again as Twitter continues asking for its employees to come back.
