Covid-19 Clusters in S’pore Officially Drops To 4 As Two Clusters Are Now Considered Inactive

Just yesterday, the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared the Covid-19 outbreak a pandemic.

Cases outside China have increased 13-fold and the number of affected countries has tripled.

Fortunately, though, I have some good news for you today.

S’pore’s Covid-19 Clusters Drop To 4 As Two Clusters Are Considered Inactive

Two of Singapore’s Covid-19 clusters have officially been closed and are no longer considered active, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said on Tuesday (10 March).

The first is Yong Thai Hang, a medical shop in Cavan Road.

This was the first local cluster to be discovered in Singapore. The primary case in the cluster was Case 19 – a 28-year-old female sales staff member at the store who was confirmed to have the virus on 3 Feb.

Nine cases in total, including a six-month-old baby boy whose mother is Case 19, were linked to the shop.

The second is the Grand Hyatt cluster, which had three cases in total.

The first case from the cluster was a 27-year-old Singaporean man. He was confirmed to have the virus on 6 Feb.

The other two cases were a 51-year-old Singaporean man and a 38-year-old female permanent resident.

All three local cases had attended a business conference organised by British company Servomex from Jan 20 to 22 at the hotel. Four overseas cases also emerged later.

Thankfully, both clusters have not been linked to new Covid-19 cases in more than 28 days.

And, according to The Straits Times, all 12 cases linked to the two clusters have recovered and been discharged from hospital.

Four active clusters left

As a result, there are now four active clusters of locally transmitted cases here.

This first two are the Wizlearn Technologies and a Seletar Aerospace Heights construction site.

The third involves the clusters at Grace Assembly of God and the Life Church and Missions Singapore, which are now considered one cluster because the two were found to be linked.

The fourth is also the largest cluster. It involves a Chinese New Year dinner celebration at the Joy Garden Restaurant at Safra Jurong on 15 Feb. The cluster is linked to 39 cases.

12 new cases yesterday

Unfortunately, Singapore experienced a spike in cases yesterday with 12 new confirmed Covid-19 patients.

This brings the total number of cases to 177.

96 patients have fully recovered and have been discharged. The number of people in ICU has dropped to 9 from 12, and the conditions of the remaining patients are either stable or improving.

The closing of two clusters is good news, but we must continue to be on our guard.
