Two Men Arrested for Allegedly Stealing Bank Cards From Overhead Bags on Flight to Singapore

Two men were arrested on 12 October 2026 after allegedly taking bank cards from passengers’ bags during a flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Singapore.

The Chinese nationals, aged 54 and 59, were arrested at Changi Airport Terminal 4 at about 9:45am. Officers found three bank cards that did not belong to them, police said in a 13 October statement reported by CNA.

Each Man Allegedly Took Cards From a Different Bag

Police said each man allegedly took cards from a different passenger’s bag stored in an overhead compartment. Neither passenger realised their cards were missing before leaving the aircraft.

Airport Police Division officers made the arrests during an operation targeting theft on aircraft, The Straits Times reported.

The men are expected to be charged on 14 October with theft on board an aircraft. If convicted, they could each face up to three years’ jail, a fine, or both.

Police Advise Keeping Valuables With You

Police advise passengers to keep cash and valuables on them instead of putting them in overhead compartments.

Travellers should also watch for anyone opening those compartments and searching through bags. Anyone who notices suspicious behaviour should alert cabin crew immediately.
