Two women have been arrested for their suspected involvement in selling counterfeit goods at two retail shops near Orchard Road, after police seized more than S$180,000 worth of items allegedly infringing trademarks.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) conducted simultaneous raids at two retail shops in a shopping mall along Scotts Road on Wednesday (16 September), the Singapore Police Force said on Friday (18 September).
The suspects, aged 39 and 54, were arrested during the operation. Police said investigations are ongoing.
More Than 900 Suspected Fake Items Seized
During the raids, officers seized more than 900 items suspected to have infringed trademarks.
The seized goods included luxury bags, watches, clothing, footwear and accessories. The items were estimated to have a street value of more than S$180,000, according to police.
Police did not name the retail shops involved.
Under the Trade Marks Act 1998, anyone found guilty of possessing goods with falsely applied trademarks for the purpose of trade may face a fine of up to S$100,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both.
Police Warn Against Selling Counterfeit Goods
Police said the authorities take intellectual property rights infringements seriously and reminded the public that distributing and selling counterfeit goods are offences.
They added that action would be taken against those who profit from counterfeit goods at the expense of legitimate businesses and consumers.
Police investigations into the case are ongoing.
