Over 300 people were evacuated from a Cathay Pacific plane after one of its tyres allegedly overheated and burst.

Eleven people were injured.

Cathay Pacific Plane Tyre Allegedly Overheated and Burst Before Take Off

On Saturday (24 June), a Cathay Pacific flight CX880 bound for Los Angeles had to abort take off from the Hong Kong International Airport.

Apparently, one of the plane’s tyres had overheated and burst.

However, Cathay Pacific’s statement was a little vaguer in accounting for the reason for aborting take off. The statement shared that it was due to a “technical issue”.

We all know what that’s code for: “I prefer not to speak. If I speak, I’m in big trouble.”

Celebrity Captures Footage of Evacuation Process; 11 People Injured During Evacuation

Upon discovering the said “technical issue”, an emergency evacuation was initiated, whereby more than 300 people were evacuated off the plane via five escape slides.

Of the more than 300 people evacuated off the Los Angeles-bound flight, 293 were passengers, and 17 were crew members.

One of these 293 passengers was 42-year-old actress Selena Lee, who managed to capture footage of the evacuation process.

After the emergency evacuation, the actress uploaded the footage to her Instagram, sharing that this was her first time being evacuated from a plane.

Fortunately, the celebrity escaped unscathed. The same can’t be said for other passengers aboard the Cathay Pacific flight.

According to Cathay Pacific’s statement, a total of 11 passengers ranging between 29 to 77 years old were injured during the evacuation process.

These 11 passengers were sent to the hospital, and nine have since been discharged.

“Our priority is to look after all affected passengers and crew,” Cathay Pacific added.

We hope “figure out the source of the technical issue” is somewhere on the airline’s list of priorities too…

Not the First “Airline Fail” in Recent Months: Airlines Asleep at the Wheel?

Following this unfortunate incident, Cathay Pacific has found itself a comfortable spot beside Scoot in the hall of fame for “airline fails”.

On Monday (19 June), the Scoot flight TR897 departed from Seoul and landed at Taiwan’s Taoyuan International Airport with one missing tyre.

Must have been the wind.

Until now, no one knows where the tyre is. Maybe it went on a solo expedition to look for the Titanic submarine.

Last month, another Scoot flight, this time bound for Singapore from Bangkok, found itself on the news after it was forced to turn back due to, you guessed it, “technical faults”.

Ah… The most fantastic excuse of all time. Instead of calling in sick for work, perhaps next time you should tell your boss you’re experiencing a “technical fault” instead.

With any hope, we won’t be seeing other airlines joining the ranks of Cathay Pacific and Scoot soon.
