Have you heard of the movie Big Trouble in Little China? We now have a Singapore version, Big Trouble in Little Singapore—well, sort of.

Last week, a beer lady was attacked by two uncles after she refused to play a peanut betting game with them.

Here’s what you need to know.

Beer Lady in AMK Attacked by Uncles after Refusing to Play Peanut Betting Game

On Sunday (26 February), a woman surnamed Lin (hanyu pinyin) got off work looking to unwind over drinks with her friends, only to be met with an attack from some middle-aged men.

Talk about a buzzkill.

According to Shin Min Daily News, Lin worked as a beer lady at a coffee shop at Block 630, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4.

After work, she changed into casual clothes and drank with her friends in the coffee shop.

A group of men around 50 to 60 years old sitting next to Lin and her friends were also drinking. These uncles had asked Lin and her friends to join them in a peanut betting game.

Since Lin didn’t want to play, she sat at another table instead. However, when Lin asked her friend to stop playing so that she could head home early, one of the uncles flew into a rage and started to attack Lin.

Perhaps the uncle wasn’t angry at Lin. Maybe the AMK coffee shop didn’t have the budget meal regime yet, and he was exasperated about that.

One Too Many Drinks?

Shortly afterwards, another man, presumably, the uncle‘s drinking buddy, also joined in to start attacking Lin.

The two uncles slapped Lin, kicked her in the chest, and even hit her head using a chair.

All that over a peanut betting game. Perhaps they should start betting on their fines and imprisonment terms instead.

From a video shown by a witness of the fight to Shin Min Daily News, a woman, presumably, Lin, could be seen sitting on the ground where a man sporting a black shirt was about to hit her.

Another man in a blue shirt suddenly stepped in to separate the two before suddenly hitting Lin.

The man in blue then held on to Lin’s leg before the man in black started to attack Lin again. The man in blue also used a chair to hit Lin twice in the head.

Passers-By and Friend Intervened

When Lin was being attacked, two passers-by rushed over to intervene and stop the attack.

We’re just glad these passers-by didn’t just walk past and assumed they were filming a fight scene for a Mediacorp drama.

Lin’s 68-year-old friend also tried to intervene, but unfortunately, he was attacked until his nose bled.

The 68-year-old suffered such severe blows that he had to be taken to the hospital by an ambulance after the incident. The 68-year-old was hospitalised for four days and was discharged just this Wednesday (1 March).

What a way to start the month.

Multiple Injuries Sustained by Lin

Lin also shared that she had suffered multiple injuries from the attack. Yet, she had initially refused to be sent to the hospital.

However, the pain grew unbearable while she was lodging the police report at the police station the day after the incident. As a result, the police called an ambulance to convey the 44-year-old to the hospital.

Lin’s toe was broken, and she also had pain in her ribs.

Lin was given 14 days of medical leave, during which she could not return to work at the coffee shop.
