Unlinked Cases Reported on 8 June Include a Bakery Retail Staff in AMK & Orchard

Just like our stomachs after the bubble tea closure last year, the daily amount of COVID-19 infections seems to be getting smaller and smaller.

Thanks to the tighter measures, the coronavirus had no place to go, and so it had to social distance like the rest of us.

However, it wasn’t all good news, though.

Though only four new locally transmitted cases (one was a dorm case) were reported yesterday, one more COVID-19 patient succumbed to the disease.

Here are the details:

Unlinked Cases Include Bakery Retail Staff in AMK

Of the 3 cases in the community, 2 are currently unlinked. They are:

  • a 54-year-old male Singapore Permanent Resident who works as a vessel manager at NYK Shipmanagement Pte Ltd
  • a 35-year-old Malaysian woman who works as a retail assistant at Four Leaves (Ion Orchard and AMK Hub)

The bakery employee developed a fever, cough, sore throat, and runny nose on 5 June but did not seek medical treatment until 7 June when she visited a GP clinic.

There, she underwent an ART and PCR test, both of which came back positive on the same day. Her serology test result is pending.

1 Case From MINDSville@Napiri, Another From Dormitory

The last case in the community is linked to the MINDSville@Napiri cluster. He is a resident of the adult care home and is asymptomatic.

His infection was detected through the health ministry’s proactive testing of residents of the home. He has already been vaccinated against COVID-19.

A new infection was also discovered in a migrant workers’ dormitory, namely a 31-year-old Bangladeshi man who is employed by Isogo Marine Engineering Pte Ltd as a plumber and pipe fitter.

The man works at Keppel Shipyard Tuas Yard and resides at Avery Lodge, located along Jalan Papan.

He is asymptomatic, and was detected when he was tested on 7 June as part of testing for dormitory residents before they visited Terusan Recreation Centre.

His ART result came back positive on the same day, and he was immediately isolated. His PCR test returned a positive result as well on 8 June. His earlier tests from rostered routing testing – the last being on 3 June – were all negative for COVID-19 infection.

His serology test result is pending. The 31-year-old received his first dose of COVID-19 vaccine on 7 March and the second dose on 28 March.

5 Imported Infections

Besides the 4 locally transmitted cases, 5 imported infections were detected, namely:

  • 2 Singapore Permanent Residents who returned from India
  • 2 Work Permit holders who arrived from Indonesia and the Philippines, of whom 1 is a foreign domestic worker
  • 1 Short-Term Visit Pass holder who was already receiving medical care in Singapore and had arrived from Indonesia for further treatment

All had been placed on stay-home notice upon arrival in Singapore.

86-year-old Patient Died From COVID-19 Complications

Sadly, an 86-year-old Singaporean woman died from complications due to COVID-19 infection, the Ministry of Health reported yesterday.

The woman had a history of diabetes mellitus, high cholesterol, hypertension, and hypothyroidism.

She was confirmed to be COVID-19 positive while warded at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital for an unrelated medical condition. She was not vaccinated against COVID-19.

The woman was linked to the COVID-19 cluster at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where her husband was warded at Ward 9D from 20 Apr to 22 Apr.

The cluster has since been closed after no new cases were linked to it for 28 days.

With the woman’s death, Singapore’s death toll rises to 34.

187 Cases in Hospitals

At the moment, there are 187 confirmed COVID-19 cases in hospitals, most of whom are stable or improving.

2 are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Another 296 cases with mild symptoms or lower risk factors are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

42 more cases have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities recently.
