There is Only 1 Unlinked COVID-19 Case on 3 June & It Could’ve Been a Past Infection

Yesterday, you probably fell off your chair after reading the daily COVID-19 case count.

After several days of 15 to 20 community cases, 35 infections in the community were reported yesterday.

This wasn’t actually surprising though, as 22 cases from MINDSville@Napiri had already tested positive a few days ago.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) said they would include them in Thursday’s (3 June) case count because they had only tested preliminarily positive at the time.

Nevertheless, we have 35 new infections to go through, 1 of whom is unlinked. Here are the details:

1 Unlinked Infection

Of the 35 new infections, one is unlinked. One is a 41-year-old Singapore Permanent Resident who works as a coating inspector at SBM Offshore at Keppel Shipyard Tuas Yard.

He had travelled to India in July 2020, and returned to Singapore on 20 April 2021. He then served a stay-home notice (SHN) at a dedicated facility until 11 May.

His on-arrival test taken on 20 April, as well as his swabs done on 3 May and 10 May during SHN were all negative for COVID-19. He is asymptomatic, and was detected when he was tested on 1 June as part of Rostered Routine Testing (RRT).

His test result came back positive the next day.

His positive serology test indicates a past infection, but he’s been classified as a local unlinked case as the health ministry cannot exclude the possibility that he had been infected in Singapore.

The man received his first dose of COVID-19 vaccine on 24 May.

MINDSville@Napiri Cluster

19 of the new cases at MINDSville@Napiri are residents at MINDSville@Napiri.

They are all asymptomatic, and were detected from MOH’s proactive testing of residents at the home. Amongst them, 17 have completed their COVID-19 vaccination regimen.

The remaining three cases work as nursing aides at MINDSville@Napiri, and were detected from the health ministry’s proactive testing of staff working in the home.

One is asymptomatic while the other two developed symptoms after being tested. They have all been fully vaccinated.

Three New Clusters

Three new clusters were identified yesterday, including one at Block 506 Hougang Avenue 8.

Previously, 12 confirmed cases were linked to the cluster. Yesterday, yet another resident tested positive – a 58-year-old Singaporean woman who is a homemaker.

One of the unlinked cases that were reported yesterday –  a 61-year-old Singaporean who works at in an NTUC FairPrice outlet manning a Singapore Pools outlet (Case 63964) – is now the source of a new cluster, as three new cases have been linked to her.

They are:

  • a 23-year-old Singaporean woman who is a student at the Singapore University of Social Sciences, and has not gone to school since 2020
  • a 30-year-old Indonesian woman who is a foreign domestic worker
  • a 51-year-old Singaporean man who works as a private hire driver for Grab

The other new cluster is the Case 63973 cluster, named after an 80-year-old Singaporean woman who is a retiree.

Two new cases have been linked to her, namely:

  • an 85-year-old Singaporean man who is a retiree
  • a 60-year-old Singaporean woman who is a homemaker

Both are family members of the 80-year-old retiree.

5 Other Existing Clusters Grow By One Case Each

5 other existing clusters recorded one new addition yesterday. The five clusters are:

  • McDonald’s delivery riders cluster
  • NTUC Foodfare (308 Anchorvale Road) cluster
  • Case 63887 cluster
  • Case 63714 cluster
  • Case 63941 cluster

Another McDonald’s delivery rider –  who works at their Tampines Street 32 outlet – has tested positive for COVID-19. The 30-year-old Malaysian man received his first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine on 16 May.

A 39-year-old female China national who works as a kitchen assistant at the affected NTUC Foodfare outlet has been linked to the cluster after she tested positive recently.

She is a workplace contact of two previous cases, and was placed on quarantine on 31 May.

The new addition to the Case 63714 cluster is a 24-year-old Singaporean man who works as an insurance agent at Great Eastern Life and a part-time GrabFood delivery driver.

As for the Case 63941 cluster, the latest case linked to it is a 17-year-old Malaysian woman who is a student in Malaysia.

Finally, a 3-year-old Singaporean boy who is a student at My First Skool (332B Anchorvale Link) has been linked to the Case 63887 cluster.

The boy is a family member and household contacts of four previous cases and was placed on quarantine on 30 May.

He is asymptomatic, and was tested on 1 June during quarantine. His test result came back positive the next day. His serology test result is negative.

The last linked community case is a 29-year-old Indonesian who works as a foreign domestic worker.

10 Imported Cases

Besides the 35 community cases, 10 imported infections were reported.

They are:

  • 4 Singaporeans and 1 Singapore Permanent Resident who returned from India
  •  5 Work Permit holders who arrived from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Myanmar, of whom 3 are foreign domestic workers

They had all been placed on SHN upon arrival here.

231 Cases in Hospitals

At the moment, 231 confirmed COVID-19 cases are still in hospitals, most of whom are stable or improving. 2 are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.

Another 324 cases with mild symptoms and lower risk factors are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

34 more cases have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities recently.
