US Top Doctor Says No More Lockdowns Required As We Wait for Vaccine

As the Covid-19 epidemic wreaks havoc around the planet, one man has stepped out with an all-important statement that everyone simply needed to hear:

Apparently, the world may soon have a vaccine that would cease the pandemic once and for all.

But here’s the thing; is it actually a legitimate statement based on real facts and figures, or a simple sentence formed with nothing but mere speculation? Without further ado…

Let’s find out.

US Top Doctor Says No More Lockdowns Required As We Wait for Vaccine

According to Channel News Asialeading government expert Anthony Fauci has stated that the United States does not require any more widespread lockdowns to contain the Covid-19 outbreak, as a vaccine may soon be on the way.

“I don’t think we’re going to be talking about going back to lockdown,” he said, “I think we’re going to be talking about trying to better control those areas of the country that seem to be having a surge of cases.”

His optimism comes off the back of early trial results, which are deemed as “encouraging”.

However, many within the scientific community noted that there has never been a successful cure for any human Coronavirus. Even HIV, a virus that has had scientists working (for a cure) for decades, is still untreatable.

But Fauci was not deterred.

The Majority of People Recovers From Covid-19

“The reason I have more confidence with coronavirus is that we know the majority of people recover from COVID-19 because their immune system clears the virus,” he said.

“So nature has already given you a proof of concept that it can be done.”

According to the expert, three upcoming treatment methods are of particular significance to the cause: the Moderna vaccine, man-made antibodies and the steroid dexamethasone.

However, he remains “cautiously optimistic” despite the methods’ success on several fronts.

The steroid, for instance, works by suppressing the unusual immune response that impairs the body’s organs, rather than assaulting the virus. As such, it would not be an ideal prescription for personnel who have not been infected for long.

“It had no effect, if not maybe even a suggestion of making things worse early on,” he said.

“This is perfectly compatible with knowing that early on in infection, you need the immune system to suppress the virus.”

And though he conceded the Moderna vaccine (as well as another from Oxford University) to be “temporally ahead”, it did not necessarily mean that their final results would be the best.

We should know, considering how the drug Remdesivir seemed to be our saviour at one point in time, only to be revealed as a somewhat inconsistent treatment-enhancer.

But at the very least, there’s hope for the future. And while we may have to walk in society with this innate fear for some time…

We can walk on with the hope that one day, everything will be back to normal.
