Most of us canโ€™t stand the thought of having nothing to do for more than five minutes, even if itโ€™s when weโ€™re in the toilet taking a dump.

Gone are the days where people used to bring in books or magazines to keep themselves occupied while doing their business.

Now, itโ€™s nothing but smartphones. After all, theyโ€™re small, portable and you can do pretty much anything on them.

Watch a video, check your social media accounts, read Goody Feedโ€ฆthereโ€™s actually a pretty high chance that youโ€™re reading this article while sitting on the toilet.

A doctor has recently warned that bringing your phone into the toilet could lead to getting haemorrhoids, due to prolonged time sitting on the toilet.

Also commonly referred to as piles, haemorrhoids are swollen veins in your anus and lower rectum, and they can either develop inside the rectum or under the skin around the anus.

โ€œConstipation and straining to defecate is a major risk factor for piles. Being pregnant, chronic cough and getting older also factor. But so too does prolonged sitting on the loo,โ€ said Dr Sarah Jarvis, a London-based GP, to The Sun.

So basically, if youโ€™re busy watching a YouTube video while pooping, youโ€™ll end up sitting there for way longer than you need to and this will increase the pressure on the veins of the anus in the lower rectum.

Itโ€™s not actually the fact that youโ€™re bringing your phone it which causes piles, but itโ€™s more of the extra time spent in the toilet which comes along with it.

Well, if the Goody Feed app has contributed to your piles, we apologise in advance. But please continue to use it when youโ€™re in the toilet.

Germs Could Get On Your Phone Too

Dr Jarvis also said that piles are actually more common than people think, because so many people suffer in silence.

Other than the possibility of piles, there are also many other reasons why bringing your phone into the toilet is not such a good idea.

Toilets are dirty places, and you never know what kind of bacteria and germs are just lurking around, waiting for a new place to go to.

When you touch your phone after touching the toilet, youโ€™re basically just transferring the germs over.

And from there, they can then go to any surface that you place your phone down on, or anyone else that you pass your phone to.

So as tempting as it may be to scroll through your phone while on the toilet, itโ€™s better not to do it.

Anyway, those few minutes without your phone wonโ€™t kill you, right?

But most importantly, make sure you donโ€™t forget to wash your hands after youโ€™re done. Phone or no phone.
