How many of us leave our valuables in the overhead compartment of aeroplanes?
It seems pretty safe right?
After all, our bags and valuables would be just above our heads where it would be relatively easy to keep an eye on.
Plus, no one would be daring enough to try to steal from right under our noses…. Right….?
Wrong.
Three Passengers’ Cash and Credit Cards Stolen From Overhead Compartment
A travel company posted a video on TikTok warning travellers not to leave valuables in the overhead compartment of aeroplanes.
They claimed to have witnessed three front-row passengers have their cash and credit cards stolen while on board an AirAsia flight from Malaysia to Vietnam.
The incident, which the user described as “daylight robbery” occurred mid-flight when they allegedly saw a man come up to the front row twice.
The man then took bags from the overhead bin and only put them back “after a while”.
Later, the three front-row passengers realised that their cash and credit cards had been stolen.
Part of the video uploaded showed a flight attendant pulling out a stack of cash from a sock which the user claimed had been thrown into “deep parts” of the overhead bin.
The stack of cash is presumably the stolen money.
Once the plane landed, the suspect was seen trying to “sneakily” exit the plane.
The user was then taken to an interrogation room in Vietnam to complete a witness statement report.
There, the user allegedly discovered that the suspect frequently flew in a group of four and took one-day transit flights “all around the world” to carry out crimes.
Apparently, the victims are not the only ones.
More Victims Come Forward
In the comment section of the video, other TikTok users claimed that they too had been victims of theft onboard flights.
Others suggested locking up their bags to keep their valuables safe.
Another method would probably be to place your valuables underneath your seat instead of in the overhead compartment.
No matter what you choose to do, remember to keep an eye on your valuables at all times.
The last thing anyone would want is to lose their hard-earned cash before their trip has even started.
