In an exclusive interview with Chinese evening daily Lianhe Wanbao, the 73-year-old revealed that she spent two days in hospital earlier this month. And the instigator behind it all?

Five plates of chicken rice. Jin shared that on the morning of 8 July 2019, she had to film five takes of a scene where she was required to eat chicken rice.

After filming, she returned home and ingested laxatives, under the impression that it would help purge the oily dish from her body system.

“In the afternoon, my stomach began to hurt unbearably. I couldn’t pass motion and broke out in a cold sweat. Then, I fainted in the toilet and when I came to, I had to ask my maid to come and save me,” she said.

When she tried to pass motion again, blood came out instead, and Jin instantly looked for medical help.

A trick from the older days

According to Jin, she had utilised the laxative method to lose weight when she was younger, and no problem supposedly arose from it.

Age, however, seems to have complicated the procedure.

She said: “I don’t dare to try losing weight anymore. I really don’t…My grandson was even crying when he saw me in a cold sweat. He was saying: ‘Nai nai (Chinese for granny), what if you can’t act anymore?”

According to Straits Times, Jin, a former Mediacorp actress, has been acting in Singapore for over 30 years.

The veteran, who clinched her first Top 10 Most Popular Female Artist award at Star Awards last year (2018) but did not get it this year, has no plans to retire just yet.

“I enjoy acting and remembering lines. It keeps my brain working and I won’t be senile,” she told the evening daily.

Well, we certainly do enjoy her performances on-screen, and so we sincerely hope that no such complications will arise in the future.

Also, no more chicken rice scenes for now, please.
