Vivian Hsu Ends Nine-Year Marriage with Singaporean Tycoon Sean Lee
Amidst the grandeur of a towering Christmas tree and the festive cheer of the holiday season, the somber news of Vivian Hsu’s divorce casts a contrasting shadow.
The Taiwanese actress, model, and singer shared her heartache in a recent Instagram post, revealing the end of her marriage—a situation that would undoubtedly resonate with many.

“I’m not Happy now. How about You?”
Back in 2014, the baby-faced, 48-year-old Vivian Hsu became engaged to Sean Lee, a prominent Singapore-based Indonesian businessman associated with Marco Polo Marine Limited.
Their love was admirable, with Vivian generously accepting Sean’s past marriage and becoming the stepmother to his two daughters from a previous marriage.
Their love culminated in a picturesque wedding in Bali, Indonesia. The following year, their joy was amplified with the birth of their son, Dalton.
However, on 10 Dec, just yesterday, Vivian and Sean jointly announced their decision to part ways.
In a poignant letter, penned in stark black and white and shared on Instagram, they cited irreconcilable differences in their perspectives as the primary reason for their separation, emphasising the amicable nature of their divorce.
The Instagram post featuring the letter underscored the emotional gravity of their decision.
“Life is a path of continuous learning, and we are grateful for the growth and sacrifices we’ve experienced over more than nine years.
We tried our hardest, but were unable to bridge our differences.
Following thoughtful discussion and mutual agreement, we have reached a friendly conclusion to dissolve our marriage.
We believe this to be the most challenging, yet appropriate decision for both of us.”
Despite the challenges, Vivian acknowledges that this step is for the best, for both her and Sean.
The welfare of their son, Dalton, remains a central concern.
It is evident that both parents deeply love their child and are committed to shouldering their parental responsibilities, albeit separately.
Taiwanese media outlet Mirror Media has reported that Dalton will continue his education in Singapore post-divorce.
“Due to Differences”
The specifics of their differences remain unspoken, yet it is known that geographical separation played a role.
Vivian’s base is in Taiwan, although she has spent time living in Singapore.
Conversely, Sean’s professional commitments largely keep him in Singapore.
Their unwillingness to compromise on this front likely contributed to their estrangement.
The COVID-19 pandemic further strained their relationship, as travel restrictions severely limited their opportunities to meet.
Vivian’s poignant reaction to a surprise birthday video from Sean and Dalton in 2020, during the height of the pandemic, was testament to the emotional toll of their separation; she had not seen them for over a month at that point, as reported by JayneStars Media.
Adding to their challenges, a 2018 Yahoo Taiwan report revealed that Sean once faced a staggering NT$6.6 billion (S$281.6 million) debt.
Though he managed to secure investors, he clarified that Vivian’s return to showbiz was not for financial reasons, but she remained a vital source of moral support.
In 2021, Vivian’s name was unfortunately entangled in Wang Leehom’s publicised divorce controversy.
Wang’s ex-wife, Lee Jinglei, implicated a married woman with a child in Wang’s alleged affairs, leading to speculation about Vivian’s involvement.
Despite her efforts to assert her innocence, the scandal had repercussions, with sponsors reportedly withdrawing from agreements with her.
