Given the living standards in Singapore today, most of us prefer to cook at home when we’re able to. A gas cooker hob is also known as the built-in gas stoves in our kitchens.
Chances are, if you’re still living with your parents, you won’t know what brand the cooker hob belongs. All you know about them is how to start a fire and to remember to turn it off after use.
After this, it might be a good idea to check your cooker hob’s brand and model before they explode on you.
“Exploding” Gas Cooker Hobs Reported
On 6 Jan 2017, just 6 days into the new year, newspapers reported that the authorities, SPRING Singapore, are warning the public against the use of the following gas cookers.
They are gas cooker hob models EGT9637CKP, EGT7637EGP, EGT7637CKP and EGT7627CKP produced by Electrolux. These models were sold in the period between 2014 and 2016.
Safety Warning Issued Against Use of Gas Cooker Hobs
SPRING Singapore, a stat board under the Ministry of Trade and Industry, urged the public to cease all use of these cooker hobs immediately.
“Consumers are advised to stop using the affected models supplied by Electrolux S.E.A Pte Ltd with immediate effect.” via Straits Times
SPRING has received reports of the glass shattering and small explosions when said hobs are in use. One was scalded when the incident occurred.
The matter is currently undergoing investigation.
Electrolux has not confirmed not deny the reports on their Facebook Page as of 10:00 am on 6 Jan 2017.
From what we understand, two condominiums that one of our Goody Feed writers (yes, one staff, two condos) stayed in was equipped with the Electrolux Electric Hob.
So if you happen to live in one, especially if it was completed between 2014 to 2016, it might be prudent to check your gas stove when you get home tonight.

And remember to let your family members know about this! After all, you don’t want to start off the new year with a bang, do you?
