If you and your laundry were singing rain, rain, go away…I have some bad news for you.
You can expect it to rain almost daily for the first two weeks of March, but you might still experience temperatures of up to 34°C.
Monsoon Rain Band To Remain, Bringing Thundery Showers Daily
The wet weather that we experienced in February is following us into March, as the monsoon rain band remains over us.
This means that we can expect thundery showers almost every afternoon, and the rain might extend to the evenings sometimes. This is due to the strong daytime heating of land, along with the coming together of winds around Singapore.
On some days, if the winds are really out and about, it may trigger widespread and heavy thundery showers over the entire island.
Additionally, due to the convergence of low-level winds from southwest and west, we might experience rain and windy days in the early mornings.
Reader Nap: Rain in the mornings, afternoons and maybe evenings… Might as well just say that it’ll rain the entire day?
Well… I guess you’re not wrong, Reader Nap.
So TLDR: It’ll rain pretty much all day, every day. Expect to see an above-average amount of rainfall for most parts of Singapore.
Rainy Days, But Temperatures Are Still High
The daily maximum temperature is expected to reach 34°C on some days. The temperature will range between 24°C to 33°C on most days.
So no, you’re not guaranteed sweater weather despite all the rain. Maybe bring a light windbreaker instead?
Historical statistics for March from 1991 to 2020 showed an average of 12 rain days and 151.7mm of rainfall, which an average temperature of 27.8 degrees Celsius.
But as we expect daily rainfall for at least the first half of March, we might go well above these averages for the month.
February Was A Month of Rain
The Northeast Monsoon led to rain for most parts of the island, especially in the afternoons and evenings during February.
On 27 February, moderate to heavy thundery showers were experienced across the island. It was more intense in the North and East of Singapore.
The daily total rainfall recorded that day was 142mm at Tai Seng, which was the record for February 2022.
Of course, Singapore experienced above-average rainfall in February 2022. Paya Lebar had the most amount of rain with 161% above average, while MacRitchie only had 1% above average rainfall.
Residents living around MacRitchie, how did it feel to have clearer skies and drier laundry than the rest of Singapore?

Warm Weather Was Still Present in February
Despite the rain, we experienced some warm weather too. The daily maximum temperature for February ranged between 26.8°C to 35.1°C.
The highest record of 35.1°C was recorded at Newton and Sentosa on 20 and 21 February respectively. To everyone who felt like they got roasted on Sentosa’s beach, you weren’t wrong in thinking that the sun is trying to cook you on the sand.
The lowest daily maximum temperature of 26.8°C was recorded on 10 February 2022, where a two-day period of rain with cloudy skies brought cooler temperatures to us.
