Previously, we wrote about ten types of bosses that you don’t want to work for.
We even made a video about it.
And it’s pretty popular because, well, everybody can relate to it.
Now, we have another bad boss to talk about.
One that thinks rewards are for the weak and threats are the best.
An Unusual Punishment
What happens when you can’t hit your sales target?
The boss invites you in for a cup of coffee and nicely threatens you with your job. But not this boss though.
He believes in tough love and decided that his employees need extra motivation to push for their results.
And by motivation, I mean these.
Raw eggs.
And raw bitter gourd.
According to Shanghaiist, the boss of a wedding photo studio made his employees eat raw eggs and bitter gourd.
The reason?
They failed to hit their sales targets.
Leaked Video
The video of the cruel treatment was leaked onto the internet and sparked off a huge debate.
The boss can be heard asking them to be faster in Chinese.

A female employee could also be seen kneeling on the ground, failing to keep the raw egg down.
Despite the huge hoo-ha, the company (or the boss) didn’t think they’re in the wrong.
Unrepentant
The studio maintained that they did no wrong.
They claimed that when the employees failed to meet their targets, they were given two choices: to come in to work on the holidays for “company education”, or eat bitter gourd or raw eggs.
Those in the video allegedly chose the second punishment.

Although granted, if I was to be offered the choice and I know how bad the company treats its employees, I wouldn’t want to be under their mercy for a long time too.
They also quoted a Chinese proverb that says “good medicine tastes bitter” (良药苦口).
Not The First Time
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time such unusually cruel treatments appeared on the internet news.
Back in 2018, three managers of a home improvement firm in China made their employees drink pee and eat cockroaches as punishment for not hitting their sales targets.
They were also whipped with a leather belt.
The police were alerted to this company and have arrested the three managers for the treatment of their staff.

Two of the managers were jailed for 10 days while the third manager will be jailed for five days, according to the police.
Singaporean Workers Must Know Their Rights
Now, while we’re far away from China and have the Employment Act protecting us, each and every employee must still know their individual rights.
