Woman Who Crossed Road While Covering Face Almost Knocked Down By Red-Light Beating Car

Last Friday (12 Mar), at around 12.13pm, a woman was almost knocked down by a driver beating the red light

Stomper Sherman managed to record dashcam footage of the incident, which occurred along Balestier Road.

In the video, a white car can be seen beating the red light at a pedestrian crossing. A woman was crossing the road at the time.

As it was raining, the woman was covering her face and looking in the other direction. The car then sped past her, missing her only by a hair’s breadth.

The woman stopped walking and can be seen waving her arm as the car came to a stop after having dashed past her.

The experience was certainly a hair-raising one, and it is certainly a relief that no one was hurt.

Sherman commented, “They were both so lucky. A split second later and the pedestrian would have been hit.”

Speeding is the Top Offence Among Motorists in Past Three Years

According to the Traffic Police, speeding was the top offence that has been committed by motorists in the last three years

The horrific Tanjong Pagar Car Crash that killed 5 and left one severely injured is surely at the forefront of everyone’s minds when it comes to speeding accidents.

As reported by CNA, although the number of speeding violations fell from 184,977 in 2019 to 162,324 in 2020, the number of speeding-related accidents rose from 735 in 2019 to 758 in 2020.

According to the Traffic Police, the increase in speed-related accidents could be attributed to lighter traffic on the roads as a result of COVID-19.

While the car in the aforementioned incident narrowly missed the woman, others have not been so lucky.

In another incident that occured in October 2019, a 33-year-old woman was fined and disqualified from driving for nine months for knocking into two people with her car at a carpark.

Thankfully, the victims survived, but both sustained injuries. They then filed a police report against the driver.
