In 2005, Jay Chou took Asia by storm by starring in his first-ever movie: Initial D.
Whether people were in cinemas for Jay Chou, for Initial D or for the cool races, it sure made an impact in the movie industry: it won several awards, Jay Chou started acting in more movies and more people knew about Initial D.
However, if you’re watched it and remembered the storyline, you’ll realize something: the ending of the movie paved the way for a sequel. To put it loosely, there isn’t any ending at all: Takumi finds out that his girlfriend isn’t what she is supposed to be, and he joins Ryousuke’s team.

So, where’s the sequel after more than 10 years? The truth is that a sequel has been in discussion a year after the movie debuted (which meant it would be 2006). However, this did not materialize due to many obstacles, from the storyline to the casts.
This went on for eight years until in 2014, when the director and producer, Andrew Lau, announced that there would surely be a sequel but did not provide any further information. According to Sina in 2014, Jay Chou also posted an image of an AE86 (the car used in Initial D) in his Instagram account and mentioned that his AE86 was “ready”.
Other stars that are rumoured to be in the movie are Ekin Cheng, Wakana Matsumoto , Chen Daoming, Simon Yam and Anthony Wong, who acted as Jay Chou’s father in the first movie. On that same period, Media Asia Entertainment Group, the company that produced the first Initial D movie, also posted a YouTube video of a series of movies that would be out soon.

In a Facebook post by Initial D World, a fan-based Initial D Facebook Page that gathers news about everything Initial D, it is mentioned that Jay Chou would not be only acting in it, but also directing it.
That post was in 2014 and according to it, the movie is set to be out in 2015—but well, it’ been so many years and we’re still waiting for it.
As of now, there’s still no update about it. So, is it going to be out? No one knows, but at least we know it’s in the pipeline…for many years.
