Tragedy strikes when you least expect it.

Unfortunately, for the 42-year-old “veteran” food deliveryman of around 5 years, Simon Teo, he didn’t survive when he was hit from behind by a drunk driver in a Mini Cooper while waiting to turn right at the T-junction near Hougang Avenue 1 on his electric bike.

He was delivering food at that time.

Wife Got to See Her Husband One Last Time

After Simon was knocked off his bike, five good Samaritans approached him to help.

Some of them checked on his condition, while others helped direct traffic. Since it was raining at that time, one person also made sure he was sheltered from the rain with his umbrella.

One of them even managed to contact his wife and inform her of the accident, which took place just 5 minutes away from their home.

When she arrived, the EMTs were already there.

Utterly devastated and distraught, the wife said, “I was calling his name, but he had no response at all…”

According to Shin Min, an eyewitness said that the wife started weeping upon seeing her husband lying motionless on the ground.

She also turned to question the driver of the Mini Cooper whether he had been drinking, but the 34-year-old driver seemed dazed and didn’t reply.

When asked by the reporter from Shin Min, the wife said, “I saw that the driver’s face was flushed, and looked like he just drank, I can’t forgive him ever, and I don’t wish for him to come to the wake.”

A Tragic End

Simon Teo was sent to the hospital and doctors tried their best to save him.

But as the night dragged on, the doctors had to eventually call the time of death.

He leaves behind an 8-year-old daughter and his wife.

The wife said that she has broken the tragic news to her daughter. Although the 8-year-old understands that her daddy is in a better place now, she would still cry and say that she misses her dad.

Fellow colleagues lending a hand

Simon’s colleagues are helping the family by pooling and donating some money to them.

One of his closer friends told the reporter at Shin Min that they would make time for a chat when they encounter each other while delivering food.

They always end their conversation with a reminder to always be careful while on the road, especially when they work exclusively at night.
