If your friend time-travelled back to 2019 to warn you that bubble tea shops would be closed for two months, visiting friends would be illegal, and wild boars will be chasing Singaporeans all over the country, you’d wonder what the hell he smoked.
But 2020 is here, and these things are happening.
We’ve managed to control the Covid-19 situation, but we now have another crisis to deal with:
The Invasion of the Swines.
Wild Boar Caught on Camera Charging at a Group of People in a S’pore Golf Course
Wild boars are popping up all over Singapore at the moment.
First, one demented boar charged at a person and ended up crashing into the glass door at Sengkang MRT Station, shattering it to pieces.

Then, a family of wild boars was spotted strolling around an HDB block like it was a perfectly normal thing to do.
Now, these chunky creatures are going after golfers.
Boars Playing Golf
Facebook user Aloysius Fong uploaded a video of boar charging at golfers at The Singapore Island Country Club (SICC) on Sunday (22 June).
In the video, the boar charges at two golfers, one of whom manage to dodge the tiny beast. The golfer behind him swings his golf club at it before the boar runs through the cameraman, causing him to fall to the ground.
Once the cameraman regains his footing, he captures the wild boar charging at the same ferocious speed towards the other side of the golf course.
We then see four smaller boars, possibly its piglets, running behind it.
In his post, Fong said that the mother boar charged at the golfers to protect her young ones.
In the human world, the sight of a man or woman teeing-off is perhaps the least threatening thing you’ll see, especially since amateur golfers often look like this:
But this mother boar certainly saw it as a threat, for whatever reason.

NParks’ Response
Speaking to Mothership, the Director of Wildlife Management at the National Parks Board (NParks), How Choon Beng, said that the agency is aware of the video, and is working with SICC to set up fencing to manage the movement of wild boars in the area.
According to NParks, the wild boar population in Singapore has increased in recent years due to their quick reproduction rates, “ideal foraging habitats” available, and the absence of predators.
On the management of the wild boar population, NParks says it takes a “carefully considered approach”.
In addition to relocation, habit modification, and the managing of their movement, this approach could also involve culling.
Licensed hunters were hired by SICC in the past to cull wild boars, reported Mothership.
What To Do If You Encounter A Boar
After watching these videos, you probably have no desire to approach a wild boar because you value your life.
But what you should you do if you happen to stumble upon one?
According to NParks, you should:
- Keep calm and retreat slowly
- Maintain a safe distance and do not provoke it
- Leave adults with young piglets alone
Grabbing the nearest golf club you can find and flinging it at the boar isn’t a great idea. That won’t end well for anyone.
