Something strange is happening in Singapore.
Ever since the country moved to Phase 2 of its safe reopening, wild boars have been spotted all over the country.
On Saturday (20 June), one demented boar charged at a person and crashed into a glass door, shattering it to pieces.
This is the stuff of nightmares.
Then, another boar was spotted running in the Compassvale estate in Sengkang.
But hey, it was just a couple of boars, right?
Wild Boars Spotted in HDB Void Deck
A video of a family of wild boars walking around at an HDB void deck has been uploaded online.
The video was posted to the Facebook group Lim Kopi Corner on 19 June with the caption “wild boars joining our phase 2 party”.
In the video, the four boars casually stroll around the neighbourhood, like a family of Singaporeans heading out their first outdoor meal in months.
As you can see, there is one particularly chunky wild boar, and three smaller piglets. This could be a mother boar leading her children around.
The exact location of the void deck is unknown.
Kept to the Limit of Fewer Than 5
As you know, social gatherings are now allowed, but they’re limited to groups of five people.

Humans are notoriously bad at following rules, and we’ve seen that in abundance during the Covid-19 pandemic.
This is why residents congregated in Holland Village like it was a Lady Gaga concert on the first day of Phase 2.
Compare the above picture to the one below:
As you can see, wild swines are more willing to abide by the “no more than five members in a group” rule than humans – the supposedly superior animal.
In addition to being adorable, these boars also know the importance of practising social distancing.
Sure, they weren’t wearing masks and probably haven’t washed their hands in years, but no one is perfect, right?
Animals are Taking Over the World
This isn’t just happening in Singapore, by the way. Animals all over the world are coming out during Covid-19 lockdowns to roam empty streets while the humans are away.
Some wild boars were also seen strolling the streets in Haifa, Israel.
As for the boars in Singapore, NParks said that their population has increased in recent years due to their quick reproduction rates, “ideal foraging habitats” available, and the absence of predators.
What To Do If You Encounter a Boar
The video of the insane boar charging at a person and crashing into a glass door isn’t representative of the general boar population, of course.
Still, it’s important to know what to do when you come across one.
According to NParks, there are three things you should do if you come across a wild boar:
- Keep calm and retreat slowly
- Maintain a safe distance and do not provoke it
- Leave adults with young piglets alone
Whatever you do, don’t hurt the little guys. Remember, it’s their home too.
