You thought you’ve seen the worst of PMD riders?

Think again, because this might just change your mind.

At noon today, the official SBS Transit Facebook Page posted this video and within hours, it has got over 35K views and well over 600+ shares for obvious reasons:

Lest you can’t read the captions, here’s what they’ve typed:

This happened at Toa Payoh Interchange this morning. The lady in question left immediately. We would like to remind users of mobility devices to please be careful when moving around in enclosed spaces. We are thankful that no one was injured in this incident.

Here’s a gif to show you how the basket fell off from her PMD.

According to SBS Transit corporate communications senior vice-president Tammy Tan, the incident happened at 7:35 a.m. this morning (1 June 2019). She added, “The area was cordoned off and has since been cleared of the glass debris. No one was injured and bus operations was unaffected.”

PMD or Not?

If you’d realise, this isn’t the typical PMD you see riders use to speed on footpaths.

It’s actually a PMA, a Personal Mobility Aid (PMA). It is also more commonly known as mobility scooters. They’re usually for the elderly or people with difficulties walking or standing for a long period of time.

However, as they’re just like PMDs, they’re considered a PMD as well, and so the same law applies to them. Unlike PMD, they would not need to be UL2272 standard yet (though that could change as the authorities are still assessing the fire safety of PMAs)

Therefore, for the lady to be able to stand up after that isn’t unusual since it’s for the elderly or people who can’t walk long.

But of course people are irate that she just left the scene immediately without taking any responsibility.

At least something good came out from this: other than learning more about PMAs, we also learn that we should do the mozzie wipeout, because the number of dengue cases has increased a lot recently.
