Woman Stayed with Dead Mother for 5 Days in Yishun HDB Until a Neighbour Made a Police Report

The residents of Block 704, Yishun Avenue 5 noticed a pungent smell in the area and decided to get the police in to investigate.

The police confirmed that they were alerted to the case on 7 May 2020 at about 1.50pm.

Officers were dispatched to the area to investigate.

When the police arrived in the area, they quickly tracked down the source of the smell to a unit within the block.

Entering, they found the body of a 60-year-old woman lying near the door of the living room.

The body has already turned black and was emitting a pungent smell.

They also discovered a woman in her 30s, reportedly the daughter of the deceased.

According to the neighbours, the daughter is seemingly intellectually disabled as they’ve often seen her behaving like a child and walking around with a doll.

Deceased Estimated To Have Died For About Five Days

According to reports, the deceased seems to have died for five days.

Her daughter was seemingly unaware that her mother had died and stayed beside her body for days.

She did not know how to make a police report nor dared to leave the house on her own.

Both Mother & Daughter Were Not “Mentally Well”

A neighbour told reporters that the mother-daughter duo seemed like they were not mentally well.

However, the mother still has a job as a dish collector when she was alive, and greet neighbours whenever they see each other.

The daughter could be seen following behind the mother and wouldn’t talk to other people.

Another neighbour shared that the pair have been staying in the unit for about 30 years and that the daughter seems intellectually disabled.

It was added that the deceased husband does not stay with them.

Neighbours describe the pair as “very poor thing”.

The police have classified the case asĀ unnatural death and investigations are ongoing.
