Parents and caretakers all have their own unique ways of raising children. Most of the time, it isn’t an outsider’s business when it comes to someone else’s parenting style.
But recently, a woman’s response to a child’s toilet emergency had the Internet firing off their thoughts.
Photo of Boy Peeing into Bottle
In a Facebook post made on Complaint Singapore, a photo showed an elderly woman allowing a boy to relieve himself in a bottle as he stood on a chair in a food court.
The Facebook user captioned, “Why like that? Toilet is just outside 1 min away.”
The picture definitely speaks a thousand words as there are many things to unpack within it.
Presumably, the elderly woman is the grandmother of the young boy who urgently needed to use the toilet.
Judging from the untouched bowl of ice kacang on the table in front of them, the dessert had just been ordered when the boy needed to use the restroom.
And such was the decision made to skip the trip to the toilet and use a bottle instead, in plain sight of everyone.

Online Response
Of course, some netizens had a bone to pick with the woman for her “unacceptable” decision.
Many pointed out that the boy’s action was “unhygienic” in the setting of the food court and was misteaching him about public behaviour.
One user commented, “This has got nothing to do with people’s appetite whatsoever but this is just plain rude. Basic manners in public.”
Another user said, “There are etiquettes that needs to be adhered to. It sets the wrong impression and learning to the kid, not to mention the lack of mindfulness towards other diners.”
Others pointed out that the woman should have taken the boy to the toilet before sitting down and ordering food at the food court or let him wear diapers instead.
On the other hand, some netizens were slightly more understanding of the woman’s situation.
A user commented that she might not have been fast enough to take the boy to the toilet and a bottle would be a better option compared to letting him relieve himself on the floor.
Another person said the food she had ordered might have been cleared if she left the table with the boy, prompting her to remain at her seat.
