A 65-year-old woman who experienced low blood sugar and dizziness two weeks ago collapsed in her room last Thursday night, foaming at the mouth.
After being rushed to the hospital, she was diagnosed with acute liver failure.
Within three days, she went from being conscious to comatose. With only 20% of her liver function remaining, her family is racing against time to find a liver donor.

Rapid Deterioration in Just Days
Chen Xiuhua (name transliterated from Mandarin), who lives in Bishan, suddenly developed symptoms including cold sweats, rapidly dropping blood sugar levels, and dizziness at the beginning of this month.
She frequently needed to lie down to rest.
On 17 Apr 2025, Thursday evening, her son found her collapsed in her room, foaming at the mouth, and immediately called an ambulance to rush her to the hospital.
Her husband, He Wenyou (name transliterated from Mandarin), 65, said in an interview on Saturday (26 Apr 2025) night that his wife was still conscious when first admitted to the hospital and could talk with family members.
However, her condition worsened dramatically within just three days, and she fell into a coma. She’s now kept alive by machines and medication.
“She was diagnosed with acute liver failure. Currently, only 20% of her liver function remains, and her condition continues to worsen. The accumulated toxins have begun to affect other organs, such as her kidneys. Doctors say she needs a liver transplant as soon as possible,” he said.
“The doctors told us that if we can’t find a matching liver donor, the worst outcome is that she can’t be saved. This news hit me and our two children like a bolt from the blue. My wife was added to the liver waiting list two days ago. We’re truly racing against time.”
Urgent Search for a Compatible Donor
Mr He and his family are now searching for a matching liver donor through Shin Min Daily News and social media, hoping to find a kind-hearted person who can save his wife’s life.

The requirements for liver donation include: age between 21 and 55 years old, any gender, blood type O, weight at least 45 kilograms, healthy with no liver disease, and not carrying viruses such as Hepatitis A or B.
Mr He revealed that after his wife fell into a coma, she was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where the daily cost reaches $25,000.
The hospital bills for four nights have already accumulated to $100,000.
He said the doctors indicated that if a suitable liver could be found, the liver transplant surgery would cost about $50,000, but long-term monitoring and treatment would still be needed afterwards.
The total medical expenses are estimated to be between $400,000 and $500,000.

“We’re just an ordinary working-class family. My wife has been a housewife since our daughter started primary school. Although we have insurance, the high medical costs, plus the fact that we still haven’t found a suitable liver donor, put tremendous pressure on me,” said Mr He.
