Do you know how people get rich?

By saving more, borrowing more to make more money, and more.

Basically, more, more, and more.

Which is why you’ve probably heard your mom say that the most stingy people are the rich ones at least once before.

But how true is that? Well, apparently, while you can’t apply it universally across the entire group of rich people (that’s stereotyping), there are still some black sheep popping up here and there.

Like this dude that we’re going to talk about.

Woman Couldn’t Get Back Loan of a Few Hundred Dollars from ‘Rich’ Man who Drives a BMW With Branded Watch

A woman, known only as Liu, told Lianhe Wanbao about her experience with a “rich man”.

She got to know him back in 2017 during work.

The impression she got from him? He was rich.

Wearing a branded watch and driving a BMW, he and his wife look like a well-to-do couple. The branded watch he wore was allegedly worth 50 to 60 thousand dollars, Liu said.

Borrowing Money

When it comes to borrowing money, the man seems like the last person to do so, but he did.

The first time he asked her for a loan after knowing each other for half a year, she rejected him.

However, in early 2019, he asked for a loan again, this time for a few hundred dollars, to which she agreed.

He returned the money on time.

However, less than a month later, he asked her for a loan again, this time for a sum of S$12,000, purportedly because his other business had cashflow issues.

Seeing that he had honoured his previous loan, Liu lent him the money.

To her immense regret.

Ghosted Her

The man allegedly started pretending not to know her. Not only that, he blocked her number too so she wouldn’t be able to call him to ask for her money back.

She tried WhatsApp, and initially, he was still replying to her messages.

After some time, she couldn’t contact him on that platform either.

Desperate, she tried approaching his wife and father for help and managed to get S$500 back before that avenue closed off too.

It’s allegedly been two months since she couldn’t get into contact with the man, Liu said.

In Financial Stress

Now, after loaning out the S$12,000 that seems more and more like a bad debt with each passing day, Liu said she was under a huge amount of stress.

Other than financial stress, she also dare not let her family members know about what happened.

However, the reason why Liu decided to speak to the media about her experience is that she wants others to know about his behaviour, and not continue to loan their hard-earned money to him.

The Chinese paper attempted to contact the man to get his side of the story to no avail.

Phone calls to him went unanswered and their messages were ignored.

Moral Of The Story

As the Chinese saying goes, talking money spoils relationships.

If you’re interested in keeping a friendship, don’t ever lend money to him or her.

And if you do lend your money, be prepared not to have it back, both your friend and the money.

After all, when friends become debtors or creditors, asking for money back would result in unhappiness that might never be resolved forever.

On a separate note, a well-dressed man who looks rich and is asking for money, plus the M.O. of returning a small sum to build trust?

That right there just sounds like the beginnings of an online scam. Agree?
