On his first day of work, an 18-year old Malaysian man fell down a mini goods elevator and was pronounced dead on the scene.
This incident happened around 5pm on the 11th of April. Andrew Munding Kuling from Bintulu was carrying goods from a mini goods elevator at a supermarket when the elevator suddenly plummeted straight down from the third floor.
What Happened
In footage from a closed circuit television at the scene of the incident, it can be seen that a few boxes had fallen onto the top of the mini goods elevator. Andrew and another colleague then moved towards transporting the boxes out of the elevator, with Andrew physically stepping into the mini goods elevator.
The elevator is then shown to suddenly drop, bringing Andrew down with it.
The victim was not shown to have been hurt by boxes, and is believed to have passed away from a neck fracture after being crushed by the elevator.

Firefighters arrived at the scene around 5.20pm, and retrieved the victim from the elevator. Medical officers and the police were also at the scene. Shortly after, the victim’s parents arrived as well, and held onto their son while crying, unable to accept what had happened.
Close with His Family
Andrew was apparently the youngest child in his family, leaving behind a 20-year old brother and a 23-year old sister. His mother works at a restaurant, while his father works at a soap factory.
His classmates described him as a helpful guy close to his family, and his mother talked about Andrew wanting to work out of his own volition to assist with the family expenses. That very morning, she had made him breakfast at 6.30am and driven him to work.
To add fuel to the fire, Andrew’s body has tested positive for COVID-19, and so their family has been unable to collect his body for a proper burial.
