I love all those “guess what it is” kind of articles because it’s so intriguing.
You know I’m not going to tell you anything until at the end of the article right?
Cut me some slack lah, all in the name of injecting some excitement into your otherwise… boring life.
Now, don’t get all defensive. Life can be quite dull if you wake up and repeat the same thing you just did yesterday.
I know I do… because I can eat the same roasted chicken rice from the same chicken rice stall for lunch every single day.
Except for weekends because my boss forbids us to work OT.
I’m sorry I can’t sympathize with you if you have to work on weekends.
Meh, I’m evil like that.
Anyways. Today’s topic is not about roasted chicken rice but coffee.
Expensive, exorbitant-priced coffee.
But before we get to that… Let’s talk about the most expensive cup of coffee you’ve ever had.
All you readers out there, if you’ve read my other articles, you would have noted my prior references to my favourite coffee brand, Starbucks.
I’m not so much a coffee addict so I don’t go for coffee-tasting events and what not.
But yes, I love Starbucks and I appreciate the coffee beans they use. Actually, I don’t know what they use but it tastes great and my stomach adores it. So, that’s enough.
And I don’t know what’s the exact price because I’m rich like that… just present my Starbucks card loaded with $1000 dollars and swipe, swipe, swipe.
Yeah right… I wish.
To be honest, I really don’t recall the exact price because I’m living in denial of the damage one cup of frappe costs on that thin wallet of mine.
But as much as I can remember, $6 to $8? If we’re talking about price without that extra shot of espresso.
The kind of price where your parents will say,
“You siao ah. Just order kopi peng (iced coffee) from coffeeshop downstairs!”
But we all know deep down, the taste is just different and they will never understand.
So I went to Google, “The most expensive coffee in Singapore” and these results came up.
Earlier this year in February, a start-up company named Medano Coffee Pte Ltd in Singapore launched its new range of premium beverages, also an attempt on a Guinness World Records title.
They blended the most luxurious of coffee capsules from the highest quality King Jantan peaberry coffee beans and 22K gold dust.
I don’t know what that is but secretly wishing they gave me the 22K gold dust instead of putting into coffee.
Woo, but to sound smart in front of y’all… Peaberry bean is apparently a Mandheling coffee found in North Sumatra, Indonesia that has floral, spicy, cocoa and caramel tasting notes.
Moving on… these limited edition coffee pods are being sold as a set of five for $388 each and after the breakdown, we know that it costs S$77.60 per pod.
Do you know how tiny those pods are?
Here:
Can’t imagine myself paying S$77.60 for one… pod like that.
But if you think that’s expensive… think again. The world’s most expensive coffee beats the price.
I spare you the misery from taking guesses. It’s… *Drum rolls*
$85.
A single espresso-size cup of Esmerelda Geisha coffee will cost you $85.
Why is it so expensive?
Because it is rare. The coffee beans are from a small mountainous region in Panama, a country in Central America.
I. Will. Never. Buy. It.
But those who might be… how would I say, curious (?) and thinking of getting your hands on one of the 80 cups which will be made available, while stocks last, here’s what you need to know.
It will be sold at The Coffee Academics which has two outlets. One at Scotts Square and the other at Raffles City from 6 November.
It has been reported that Singapore will be the first country in South-east Asia to taste this high-priced beverage.
Wow, how honoured but… no, thank you for me. I can buy an air ticket with that money. To somewhere near lah, of course.
So, will you want to try this?
