Let me give you a scenario of a regular day.

You pull up at a local coffee shop, exhausted after a long day of work.

Walking over to the mixed rice stall, you order the usual fare of ingredients and go back to your table.

Suddenly, you see a darker spot between your meat. Maybe the stall owner gave you something extra?

And then on closer inspection, you realise it’s an insect.

HELP.

Surprise Ingredient

Can I stop writing this article? I have a lunch appointment.

…no? Fine.

Mr Bhavesh Gumani, an IT specialist, was having dinner with his wife at a food stall at the Block 208B New Upper Changi Road hawker centre on 24 September.

As he was separating his rice from the meat, he saw something and thought that it might have been fish scales.

But nope.

It had to have a curved body and small legs.

Unsurprisingly, the 29-year-old went back to the stall and demanded a refund, as anyone probably would have done.

Funny that the stall owner wanted to argue with him about it too, as I’m pretty sure that eating something like that can be a hazard.

Mr Gumaini even puked afterwards.

Once again, I feel you, bro.

Pretty sure if something like this happens and you get really sick from it, getting sued isn’t out of the possibility.

SFA Takes Action

If you need to bust ghosts, you call the Ghostbusters, right?

You need to bust some suspect food stall, squad up Singapore Food Agency (SFA).

The SFA said yesterday (3 October) that it will take enforcement action against that particular food stall.

Yes, enforcement action, not investigations.

What actions will be taken have not been explained in detail.

In an interview with The Straits Times, SFA has reminded the operator to ensure proper food preparation practices and that there is no contamination in their products.

“Food operators are required to adhere to good food hygiene and preparation practices.”

While I understand hawker centres aren’t the cleanest of places, I don’t think it’s that hard to have a little hygiene standard?

But in the case where you do find something similar to Mr Gumani’s situation, you can actually feedback to the SFA in an online form. Good to take note!

Which actually reminds me that I’m going out with a friend to a hawker centre to eat…
