Tagging and tracking is the name of the game when it comes to COVID-19.

After Singapore has successfully convinced a huge majority of the population to take up TraceTogether, they’re now moving their sights on the MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) sector.

Wristbands to Track Movements At Business Events May Help S’pore to Revive Its MICE Sector

On 9 Mar 2021, it was reported that Singapore will be trialling a pilot to furnish event visitors with wristbands.

The first trial will be held at the Geo Connect Asia 2021 event where almost 1,000 visitors, delegates and speakers, mostly comprising of locals, will attend.

The event, which is focused on location tech, will be held at Marina Bay Sands on 24 and 25 Mar 2021.

The Safe Event Platform

Created by local tech firm Viatick and Trackomatic, the platform will track the movement of visitors with geospatial technology through the wristband and an app.

Participants will have to submit a photo upon registration and download the Safe Event mobile app.

They’ll have to check-in at the event with facial recognition or a QR code.

After they go through the entry procedure, they’ll be given a wristband which not only tracks their locations but monitors their temperatures too.

The mobile app also has other functions besides tracking.

It can provide updates about the event, as well as inform them of any safe management measure violation.

Meeting Pods

Other than tracking, meeting pods that are equipped with plexiglass to separate participants will also be deployed.

The pods were first tested at the TravelRevive tradeshow in Singapore last year, also held at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre.

This time, however, the pods will be made bigger to accommodate up to four people and microphones are installed on both sides to allow participants to hear each other better.

Will Continue To Reimagine MICE Sector

As you can probably tell by now, Singapore is hoping to become the regional hub for business meetings and events.

According to the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), it will continue to “reimagine” MICE events even as Singapore works towards hosting the World Economic Forum, which was postponed to Aug 2021.

Well, you got to say, if the wristbands work as well as they hoped, events in Singapore just became a lot safer.

This means more people would be willing to travel here to hold events or attend one.

All good things, for sure.

On a separate note, Singapore’s national vaccination programme is going smoothly as well, with the schedule brought forward after receiving more supplies. You can find out all about it here.
