According to Shin Min Daily News, Mr Chen, a 46-year-old self-employed man, was drinking with his 42-year-old girlfriend Ms Chen, a beer sales manager, and friends when trouble erupted at another table.

Four men were drinking when a fight started among them.

Ms Chen knew the men and went over to intervene in their dispute. The men allegedly threatened her with violence, with someone warning, “I beat women too.”

Despite being victims according to their account, only Ms Chen was arrested for affray. Mr Chen claims this happened because CCTV footage showed her fighting.

Mr Chen suffered a broken rib, facial and body bruises, and chest pain. He produced a medical report and continues taking painkillers.

Ms Chen’s left eardrum was ruptured, affecting her hearing. She awaits CT scan results and must return for follow-up appointments. Her medical expenses have exceeded S$3,000.

Conflicting Accounts Emerge About Brawl’s Origin

One of the four men later called Ms Chen offering to settle the matter privately and compensate her medical expenses. The couple declined to meet him and filed a police report instead.

However, witnesses at the coffee shop gave different versions of events. A beer lady who was not present that night described Mr Chen as an angry drunk who shouts at people and starts fights after drinking.

Other patrons claimed they heard the brawl began when Mr Chen threw a beer glass.

Mr Chen denied these accusations, insisting he was drinking quietly with friends and remained at his table even when intoxicated. He called the glass-throwing allegations lies.
