It’s another day, and of course, it’s another day of someone allegedly trying to break into a digital lock.
And this time, it’s in Yishun.
Another Person Caught on CCTV Trying to Break Into Digital Lock, This Time in Yishun
The incident happened around 4 AM on Wednesday (23 October) at Block 259 Yishun Ring Road.
According to Shin Min Daily News, a 57-year-old clerk living on the seventh floor woke up to alerts from his door lock’s mobile app.
Through his surveillance camera, he spotted a Chinese man, approximately 30 years old, wearing a black T-shirt and black arm sleeve on his left arm, carrying a backpack.
The stranger spent nearly five minutes at the door, trying at least three times to crack the lock’s password.
“I’ve lived here for 10 years and have never seen this person before,” he said. He noted that nothing valuable was placed outside his unit, just some potted plants.
When he went to check, the suspicious man quickly fled the scene. A police report was filed immediately after.
The resident had installed the digital lock four months ago to help his 85-year-old mother enter and exit the flat more easily. “I always lock both the metal gate and wooden door before sleeping. Even if someone breaks the digital lock, they can’t get past the wooden door. However, the wooden door stays unlocked when my mother is home alone during the day,” he explained.
Now, if this sounds like déjà vu, it’s because breaking into digital locks appears to be as popular as Labubu.
Not the First or Second Case
In the most recent case on 11 October 2024, a Sengkang resident encountered an unknown man attempting to unlock her digital lock at the Rivervale Shores estate around 10:35 PM.
The resident came face-to-face with the bearded man in a blue shirt when she opened her door.
CCTV footage showed the man looking stunned and stepping backward upon being discovered.
In another notable incident on 15 September, Singaporean actor Ryan Lian was arrested after allegedly tampering with a digital door lock at Block 93B Telok Blangah Street 31.
The incident was discovered when the resident, a 30-year-old nurse, received a notification while she was out with her family.
Security camera footage showed a shirtless Lian successfully opening the metal gate with the digital lock and attempting to unlock the wooden door.
Now, of course, if all the events are one major marketing campaign by a digital lock firm, all I can say is that they’ve been virally success.
