Do you know why being sick sucks? It’s more than that uncomfortable, mucus dripping feeling when you have a cold or fever.
It’s the snaking queues and ungodly numbers of people at the polyclinic.
Sian, need to wait 2 hours every time I go to the doctor. Like that might as well go work instead of chao-genging.
Well, fret not! It seems that there are more polyclinics opening to serve the medical needs of our Singapore residents.
Three New Heartland Polyclinics
There will be three new polyclinics that will be set up by 2025, which will be built in Serangoon, Tengah, and Kaki Bukit.
The Serangoon Polyclinic, when ready for operations, will be the largest polyclinic in Singapore.
For all you lucky Serangoon residents: It’ll be located across from Nex shopping centre, and just a short walk from Serangoon MRT station.
It also boasts some of the latest medical technology and services to cater to the various ailments of residents.
Member of Parliament, Mr Seah Kian Peng shared some details of how the development of Serangoon Polyclinic would unfold.
The centre will include an Active Ageing Hub, a Kidney Dialysis Centre as well.
It is hoped that the construction of the Serangoon Polyclinic will significantly ease the pressure off the neighbouring polyclinics in the heartlands.
Ambitious Goal
By 2030, the Government hopes to hit the ambitious target of 30 polyclinics all over the island.
Currently, there are over 18 polyclinics all over the island. 12 more will be built by the next decade.
Given the soaring demand for healthcare due to an ageing population, there is an increased need for outpatient clinics like Polyclinics to provide treatment, especially with facilities like an Active Ageing Hub to cater for elderly patients.
Furthermore, more and more Built-To-Order (BTO) flats are located in the suburbs of Singapore, away from traditional heartlands or bustling areas.
This means that more polyclinics will be necessary for these areas to make it convenient for new residents to see a doctor.
Over the next decade, polyclinics will be built in these areas:
North
- Sembawang
- Khatib
- Yew Tee
West
- Bukit Panjang
East
- Eunos
- Kallang
- Tampines North
Singapore is already one of the finest places where people can receive quality healthcare, but there was used to be a discrepancy in attending private clinics/hospitals compared to government ones.
Now, it seems as if government medical facilities are very advanced and accessible, at a low cost to residents.
Most importantly, I don’t have to wait!
